Israel allows 2 million Palestinians with Israeli citizenship (who did not become refugees in 1948) to vote and run for office while it denies that right to 6+ million it has kept under a brutal illegal occupation for nearly 60 years. That is not democracy. It is Apartheid.
Israelโ€™s Arab citizens, men and women, are turning out in historic numbers to vote. They can vote, run for office, and serve in the Knesset, rights denied to many Arabs and women across much of the Middle East. Our critical ally in the fight against terror, Israel, is the only democracy in the region, and today shows it.

I grew up in Israel. I was educated there. Served it. Studied it. Taught about it. No one knows it better than I do. And there is no doubt. It was built on racism and the destruction of the Palestinian people.

There is season the Arab parties are not being included. Itโ€™s not because of Netanyahu or Ben-Gvir. Itโ€™s because Israeli Jews are racist to the core. Itโ€™s at the heart of of Zionism.
Just look at this poll of Jewish Israelis. The *overwhelming* majority oppose any inclusion of the Palestinian-led parties. Even if they're not in government. If they have to choose racism or getting rid of Netanyahu... They will choose the racism!

Wonder how all those British commentators who worked themselves into such a lather with @ZackPolanski and the Green 'Zionism is Racism' motion, are squaring their convictions with the awkward fact that Netanyahu would actually have packed his bags by now and conceded if, well, Zionism wasn't racist & it was OK for mainstream Israeli parties to enter coalitions with moderate Palestinian ones. As it is, we are probably in for another massively racist and genocidal government, quite possibly led by Netanyahu...
If Israel wasnโ€™t a Jewish supremacist society [โ€œZionist] then all the headlines today would be that Netanyahu lost and that a strong Jewish-Arab government in Israel that champions democracy and personal security can place a way forward

The refusal to partner with Palestinian Arab parties is not just about losing chance to replace Netanyahu government- it also has real implications for Israelโ€™s already flawed democracy, for basic civil rights and will encourage further destruction of liberal institutions.

It goes without saying that on a historic election night for the Arab voters, in which theyโ€™ve elected an unprecedented number of MKs, Netanyahu has just totally disregarded them as equal citizens. But that was to be expected. Whatโ€™s more disappointing (though sadly not very surprising) is that the Jewish opposition leaders didnโ€™t make any gesture in their speeches to the Arabs either, and spoke of a โ€œZionistโ€ government. They deserve to lose to Netanyahu.

Netanyahu and his allies have beaten the opposition in the Jewish Israeli vote. That's despite: - Presiding over October 7th - Netanyahu being on trial on charges of bribery and fraud - A cost of living and housing crisis - Attacks on the judiciary - Outrage over shielding ultra-Orthodox Jews from conscription - The Qatargate scandal - The disastrous Iran war - The Israeli establishment rationally believing that Netanyahu was making their state a pariah, and organising to get rid of him - The opposition overwhelmingly also supporting the genocide, occupation and illegal settlements If we include Ofer Winter's party - which pledged to support Netanyahu for prime minister, but hasn't crossed the threshold - then so far 51.5% of the non-Arab list vote went to the Netanyahu bloc. With 84.4% of votes counted, among the non-Arab list bloc, the opposition has only increased its share of the vote by about 1.6 points. Ben-Gvir and Smotrich stood separately this time, but are set to win almost the same combined number of seats as last time. The latter in alliance with Moshe Feiglin, who declared "Every child, every baby in Gaza is an enemy." The only significant shift is the surge in support for the Palestinian-led parties. But most of the opposition is opposed to working with them. Avigdor Lieberman, for example, has taken even more extreme positions towards Palestinians than Netanyahu himself. If they do a pact with the Palestinian-led parties, not only would it not last long, it would produce a huge right-wing backlash. That the opposition could on paper form an arithmetical majority with the support of the Palestinian-led parties - but absolutely will not - trashes the "well if the small minority of Palestinians who remained in Israel after the Nakba can vote, then Israel is a democracy for all its citizens" nonsense. A very likely prospect is that this will pave the way for new elections. The two right-wing parties which didn't cross the threshold would likely not stand again, boosting Netanyahu. The same huge mobilisation of Palestinian citizens of Israel would likely not transpire. Netanyahu and his allies would likely benefit from shock at the unexpected surge in support for the Palestinian-led parties. The opposition would be demoralised by its failure, and Netanyahu strengthened by having come out on top in this election. So it's best to bet on Netanyahu winning a coming election. What does all this mean? Any illusions that change can happen within Israeli society should long ago have been destroyed. The opposition would have continued the genocide, the occupation, apartheid and colonisation. But as Israel's support in the West collapsed, Israel's cheerleaders pushed the position that Netanyahu was the bogeyman, and that a shift in figurehead could allow the state to do a PR relaunch. Netanyahu isn't Israel, we were told. Well that's true in the sense that on many key issues, Israeli society is actually more extreme than Netanyahu. This baseless illusion is now dead and buried. There must now be a much more determined push for a total arms embargo and sweeping sanctions on Israel. Those arguing that Israel is something it plainly is not are now completely and utterly discredited.

400,000 Palestinians in East Jerusalem do not have the right to vote. What's that? A faux pas?
Today, two million Arabs had the right to vote in a free and fair election in the Middle East. In a region where that freedom is nonexistent, only one country guarantees it: Israel.

The most laughably stupid Israeli hasbara line youโ€™ll hear today: โ€œArabs can vote in Israel, so it canโ€™t be apartheid.โ€ Now tell me: how can more than 700,000 Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, vote in Israeli elections, while Palestinians living in the same territory cannot?

Adaptation is never just a retelling of a story. It is an inherently transformative process. There has never been a scene for scene, word for word adaptation of ANY work of Literature. There is always a layer of interpretation and re-imagination at play. Villeneuve has managed to stay true to the spirit of Frank Herbert's world while giving Dune his own unique signature and because of, not in spite of this, he has created one of the greatest adaptations of all time.
Replying to @TSoS_
How can you be okay with this? Him using dune to satisfy his own needs like some kind of therapy is weird as fuck
