🚨⬇️ “We can’t sink into helplessness. Help us get families out of the floodwater & into shelter that can actually protect them. Please urgently donate whatever you can & share this appeal. Every contribution brings another family closer to having somewhere safe & dry to sleep”
Gaza is DROWNING. And this should make us angry, furious and outraged! 🚨Urgent support needed 🚨 chuffed.org/project/113222-t… Overnight, thousands of tents collapsed under the storm, with dozens of displacement camps now completely underwater. The rain is expected to continue until Monday. This is the FOURTH winter that Palestinians in Gaza have faced under genocide. After years of bombardment, displacement and destruction, families who have already lost their homes are now watching their only remaining shelter collapse under the rain. Think about what that means: parents trying to keep their children dry, families desperately trying to salvage their belongings from floodwater, people who have already been displaced repeatedly being left with nowhere safe to go. There is something profoundly wrong with a world in which people are forced to fight this hard for the basic right to shelter. They should never have been put in this position. The Sameer Project is already replacing dozens of destroyed tents and arranging truckloads of sand to help absorb water in flooded camps. But the need is far greater than our current resources. We urgently need funding to provide higher-quality, more durable tents. These cost $700, compared to $200 for lower-quality alternatives. Many families are refusing the cheaper tents because they know they will likely break again. We are also looking to buy hundreds of tarps and blankets. They cannot keep starting from nothing every time a storm hits. We are asking you to help us do something tangible. We can’t sink into helplessness. Help us get families out of the floodwater and into shelter that can actually protect them. We cannot stop the storm, but we can refuse to stand by while families face it without protection. Please urgently donate whatever you can and share this appeal. Every contribution brings another family closer to having somewhere safe and dry to sleep: chuffed.org/project/113222-t…

What Gaza is experiencing right now is another form of cruelty. Donations needed urgently: chuffed.org/project/113222-t… Feel the cold. Feel your soaked clothes cling to your skin. The floodwater is up to your knees, and there’s nowhere to run, nowhere to get dry. No where to sleep or to comfort your crying and wet children. And the rain keeps coming. This is what families in Gaza are living through right now. It’s our duty to show you what’s happening. It’s your duty to spread it. And all of us need to help. Share this. Give to The Sameer Project’s Winter Campaign today by donating to our General Fund: chuffed.org/project/113222-t… These families depend on us not looking away, sharing their suffering, and taking action.

Funny how debt is totally forgivable when it's tied to a failed business or a hedge fund. But the moment it's for school or a hospital bill suddenly it says something about your character.

⚠️ Palestinian Health Minister Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan: “What is happening in Gaza is not a passing winter crisis. I urgently call on the international community, the United Nations, and health, humanitarian, and relief organizations to intervene immediately to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the Gaza Strip, following the flooding of thousands of tents with rainwater and the absence of basic safe shelter conditions. I warn of a catastrophic deterioration in health and environmental conditions, alongside growing risks of the spread of diseases and epidemics.”

I admit that I completely broke down today. I cried uncontrollably. I couldn’t hold myself together after witnessing what I saw with my own eyes. Today, we went to film a journalistic report inside the displacement tents along the seashore. I swear, what we witnessed was beyond what any human being should have to endure. I saw men crying bitterly. Men I had never seen cry when they lost their children or when their homes were destroyed. Today, I saw them crying because they were powerless to do the simplest thing: protect their children from the water and the cold. We spoke to families who told us they had spent the entire night carrying their children in their arms after floodwater covered the floors of their tents and soaked their mattresses. They couldn’t find a single dry place to put their children. They couldn’t even give them a few hours of sleep. I saw children no older than five, without proper clothes to protect them from the cold, without heating, and without a dry place to sleep. Children shivering inside tents that cannot keep out the rain, protect them from the wind, or provide even the most basic sense of safety. What more must happen for this world to act? How much more suffering must people endure before someone remembers that they are human beings? I am sick of this world. I am sick of its hypocrisy and empty slogans. To hell with a world that talks endlessly about human rights while leaving children to drown inside their tents. To hell with everyone who has witnessed this suffering and chosen silence, and to hell with the governments and institutions that have the power to act but continue to turn their backs on us.

Doug Ford’s war on bike lanes is not about fixing traffic, but leveraging anti-urban prejudices for political gain, Trump-style. As the US rejects such divisive & dangerous tactics, Vincent Lam says it’s time to make bike lanes great again thestar.com/opinion/contribu… #onpoli #bikeTO

How many more young people from Ontario are having the government refuse to pay for cancer treatment that may help them? How many people can't afford to sue? Sylvia Jones is killing Ontarioans and Doug Ford is happy so he can rob more of us
A 21-year-old #Brampton man is raising money for cancer treatment in the US after his stage 4 colon cancer stopped responding to chemo. Taye Hastings was diagnosed in June at 20, with the cancer already spread to his liver, stomach, kidneys and lungs. After surgery and six rounds of chemotherapy, he says doctors told him it’s become resistant. He’s now hoping to raise $550,000 for personalized treatment at a clinic in Arizona. “I’m not ready to give up on this fight,” he told NOW Toronto. Colorectal cancer rates are rising in Canadians under 50. In July, Ontario lowered its recommended screening age from 50 to 45. Donate: gofundme.com/f/give-taye-a-c… (via NOW Toronto)

If you’re a Muslim employee of @Rogers or @BlueJays, take note. When given an opportunity to show accountability and demonstrate that Muslim fans and colleagues are welcome, your employer chose to say nothing further.

Let’s try this again. @BlueJays have contact information for their PR made available to us. If the response is left at ‘we have nothing further to share’ the contact information they share with the general public, we will share as part of an economic boycott (which their sponsors will have to deal with as well) So if all your partners are content with your response, they too will experience our civil disagreement. So if you want to avoid protests, bad international publicity & a negative economic impact, I gently request you reevaluate your response.

I love it when a tweet escapes containment and suddenly the worst people are upset about it. Like damn, I know you're miserable and raging no-nutting incels fascists, but it's kind of cute how incoherently upset you are.

For all the delightfully upset extreme right-wingers presently in a tizzy, I'll spell it out clearly. If this issue isn't addressed, this team will get a nice little letter-writing campaign, protests & a lot more bad publicity. (Oh, the thread's on mute, so have fun, darlings)

There has been a failure of leadership at the Blue Jays. They have not condemned the Islamophobic nature of the posts. Nor have they made it clear that they uphold zero tolerance for hate against anyone, including Muslims. This points to a systemic problem that will require real commitments from this organization or risk letting down many of their fans. From @_shireenahmed_ in @cbcsports cbc.ca/sports/baseball/blue-…

People welcoming Kanye West back with open arms is the precursor for everybody welcoming Diddy back with open arms, and honestly, both scenarios are extremely disgusting and it’s sad that people are that weak willed.
