Finally! Rigged hair cards from a single image. HairDeck (Tsinghua + CMU + CUHK) takes one character image and builds a stylized haircut as separate 3D hair cards, with bone chains already attached. The hair sways when the head turns. Exports to GLB, or straight onto a VRM avatar. Code and weights are open under Apache 2.0. You get geometry and UVs, no textures yet. Local run wants Linux and CUDA. github.com/hyz317/HairDeck

All the C vs Rust comments referring to use after free: i’ve not seen agents running into this issue. So I don’t understand why this comes up so frequently in the comments - did those people actually try or do they just assume?
Many of those recent reimplementions and rewrites were done in Rust. However, to understand the implicit tradeoffs of this choice, an ablation study should be performed to see if/how faster and better the agent would do the same using the C language.

It was mind-blowing. Took ages to start due to the asset generation at start. Had the privilege to work a tiny bit with one or two of them later. Exceptional people!
In 2004, a German demoscene group released a game called .kkrieger. It was a full 3D first-person shooter with dynamic lighting, textures, sound effects, music, and monster AI. The entire executable was 96 kilobytes. Instead of storing images and audio files, they wrote C++ and Assembly that generated the 3D meshes, textures, and sound waves mathematically in RAM when the game booted. Today, a single website's "Accept Cookies" banner is 10x larger than that entire 3D game.

In the age of AI, making "No breaking changes" your main selling point is a disaster. What we worked on when I left was to make Unity 7 a super tight, fast core of functionality. Even back then, in the fall of 2022, we knew AI would destroy the benefit of C# and the programmer dominance. And we pushed so hard to break only once and break hard. The new CEO just didn't care. He fired or drove off everyone who disagreed with with him. So now little Timmy can write a three line prompt in any LLM and have a fully functioning game running in his browser in 30 minutes. The bottom of the chain from whence Unity was born is gone. And the top of the pyramid is Unreal and custom engines. There is no reason for Unity to exist in its current form. And they continue to insist on not changing it.

Compatibility was a big pain for live games that needed to move across versions to keep platform support and bug fixes. But I think one big reset was needed as well because it’s too slow.Maybe the slower transition to Core Clr will do it but right now small games dont need Unity

github.com/MaxLiu22/Motion2M… Made an open-source one that does the same thing, and there's a Blender extension available for it now too.
🛑 Stop wasting hours cleaning up mocap. MotionGen by TAngraFX lets you extract video to clean animation in just 3 keyframes. It’s literally a few clicks to ready-to-use motion. Watch the tutorial! #Blender #TAngraFX #3DAnimation #MotionGen

These charts make no sense to me while looking at where dublin, paris and london are placed. Dublin is very expensive and lot of Irish people leave because they cannot afford to live here

Free image-to-3D models don't preserve your source image - text, logos and fine detail come back garbled. I got that working with my latest 'Pixel Match' feature in my image-to-3dlab: it copies the actual pixels from your source onto the model, even after retopo down to ~5k faces. High quality, low poly 3D models that are riggable and can be animated. One step closer to Tripo / Meshy level of output, but free and on your own machine. Mac + NVIDIA. Try it out here: github.com/Bingeljell/image-… There's lots more to do, so please test, raise issues & PRs, etc.
