🚨 Just in: The term "associate membership" has been dropped from the EU-Canada declaration at the insistence of Germany. The concept has been replaced by a commitment to "ever closer association", @BertuzLuca reports. Huge blow for Ursula von der Leyen. euronews.com/2026/10/28/eu-r…

Europe must take responsibility for its own security. A common defence needs common democratic institutions and the capacity to act together. Thank you @KubiliusA for this exchange with the Action Committee’s High Patrons.
Delighted to meet group of prominent Europeans dedicated to European Defence. We live in crucial times and solutions to our challenges will define how next generations of Europeans will live.  Much needed discussion and ideas from the Patrons of the United States of Europe.

🇧🇷🇪🇺 Just hours after the Serbian student movement’s historic victory, Brazil has delivered another powerful message of democratic hope. Europe must seize this moment. A united, federal Europe can be a stronger partner to those defending democracy across the world

5. Flávio Bolsonaro cometió errores no forzados.

A historic moment for Serbia! 🇷🇸🇪🇺 This victory belongs to citizens who demanded accountability, democracy and a better future. It must also be a wake-up call for the EU that must carry out the reforms needed to welcome Serbia when it fulfils the conditions for membership.

Ukraine, not Russia, has held the initiative in key sectors of the frontline for much of the year. Ukrainian forces have decisively defeated the main Russian offensive intended to complete the seizure of Donetsk Oblast in 2026. Ukrainian forces operationally defeated the Russian northern pincer in the Lyman direction and defeated the Russian military command’s plan to conduct a wide encirclement of Ukraine’s Fortress Belt. Ukraine’s Operation Vivaldi resulted in the liberation of around 277 square kilometers and 16 settlements north and northeast of Lyman over four phases that Ukrainian 3rd Army Corps Commander Brigadier General Andrii Biletskyi began announcing in September 2026, although the operation likely began around March 2026.
MORE: Putin is trying once again to breathe life into the myth of inevitable Russian military victory in order to persuade the United States and other supporters of Ukraine to compel Kyiv to surrender. Putin constantly asserts that Russian forces are making gains along the entire frontline. He makes claims of territorial gains so far from reality as to be fantasy. He hearkens back to the Soviet Union and the Red Army to evoke images of Soviet hordes overrunning the German Wehrmacht. But these claims, images, and maps of supposed Russian gains are all fictional. Reality is quite the opposite.

Today is a victory for International Law and for Europe’s soul and a powerful reminder that accountability matters. The decision to award the 2026 Sakharov Prize to the International Criminal Court and its officials, nominated by the S&D Group, sends a powerful message to the world. Today, dignity has prevailed. @IratxeGarper @Yannis_Maniatis socialistsanddemocrats.eu/ne…

The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…
