It’s remarkable that these prominent veins don’t bleed more often.
The vascular substrate of prostatic hematuria. Endoscopic close-up of prominent, tortuous submucosal prostatic veins—a potential source of bleeding in BPH. Striking vascular anatomy beneath a thin urothelial covering. #Endourology #BPH #Hematuria @so_uro @Endo_Society

A new US study claims transrectal prostate biopsy is better because it saves $200 over the safer transperineal route. But $200 covers less than 10 hours of a single cancer drug like Darolutamide. Patient safety shouldn't be traded for 0.4 days of oncology costs. #urology
💰 Balancing Costs in Prostate Biopsy Choices! The ProBE-PC study analyzes TR-Bx vs. TP-Bx costs, guiding evidence-based healthcare decisions. 📊 Higher Costs - TP-Bx costs more than TR-Bx with increased healthcare resource use 💼 Decision-Making - Key for biopsy technique selection in modern clinical settings DOI: tnyp.me/V4eBbCRY/x

Great tutorial. As an old-timer who still performs open surgery, I’m surprised by the clipless approach. I prefer to clip the major lymphatic vessels. Who else? #urology
🔬 Pelvic lymph node dissection: let's focus on the LEFT side! Most surgical tutorials focus on the right side. But what about the left? 🎓 In this new FREE Surgical Vision tutorial, you'll learn: ✅ Key anatomical landmarks ✅ Instrument positioning ✅ External iliac vein dissection ✅ How to safely identify and preserve the obturator nerve Relevant to both prostate and bladder cancer surgery. 🔁 Subscribe & share to help make surgical education accessible to everyone! @ERUSrobotics @AmerUrological @Uroweb youtu.be/vP_Qsfc7frE

Histologic diversity in #BladderCancer is stage-dependent: rare in pTa (<2%) and pT1 (<5%), but common in MIBC/mUC (~35% variants/divergent). Squamous differentiation dominates (~90% of divergent cases), with basal-like biology and distinct therapeutic targets. #GUPath #UrothelialCancer

Please stop listening to AI, if stone retraction via the retroperitoneum is recommended. 🙃 Looking at the image makes me feel uncomfortable.

Planned laparoscopic ureterolithotomy for a 5.4 cm ureteric stone. Then… it passed spontaneously 😲 Resident Ashwin turned the surprise into a case report @UroCaseReports. To our knowledge, this was the 1st spontaneous passage of a ureteric stone >5 cm sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

At initial presentation of a suspected testicular germ-cell tumor—before tumor markers and CT are available—do you perform POCUS of the aorta and retroperitoneum? I do it out of curiosity—and to learn. #UroSoMe #TesticularCancer #Urology #POCUS

This is intravesical prostatic protrusion (IPP): the sagittal distance from the bladder neck to the tip of the protruding median lobe. At 24 mm, this is grade III (>10 mm). It is a useful noninvasive marker of relevant bladder outlet obstruction. Do you routinely measure IPP?

This is misleading information: during prostatectomy, whether open or robotic, the difference between apex of the prostate and sphincter is clearly visible. @uroweb @AmerUrological @DoctorSotelo @dr_coops
With a prostatectomy, the urologist is unable to see the difference between the apex of the prostate and the external sphincter. If a patient has an apical lesion and it is too close to the external sphincter, two things can happen: buschcenter.com/tulsa-and-th… #ProstateCancer

Hematuria after partial nephrectomy or percutaneous stone surgery? Think renal AV fistula or pseudoaneurysm. Doppler US or CT angiography can establish the diagnosis; selective embolization usually preserves the kidney. #Urology

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is not advised. 🙃
Large calcified renal artery aneurysm in the renal sinus can be easily misdiagnosed as an intrapelvic stone!‼️ Be careful and check you CT scans by yourself ☝️ #aneurysm #kidney
