Doing social media while in the military is a lot like being on the bomb squad, because if you make just one mistake, it’s over for you.

I am so Humbled by the Honor of becoming the Horary SMA of the Army this afternoon … no words can express the gratitude I feel 💪💯🔥🙏🇺🇸@USArmy @USAA @thejointstaff @SecWar @SecKennedy..
Congratulations @RobertIrvine, 12th Honorary Sergeant Major of the Army!! Thank you for transforming how we view the feeding of our joint force, it’s so much more than a food solution! You’re helping us create an experience that extends to the Families and yields readiness!

Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Robert Irvine Foundation—one we've been working toward for a long time. Fuel to Serve, our five-year partnership with USAA, is built around a simple idea: when it comes to our military, food is never just food. It is essential to readiness. It is physical health, community building, and even mental health support. We're starting at Fort Bragg and in the Washington, D.C. region, learning what works, measuring the impact, and building a model designed to reach military families far beyond those first communities. I am immensely proud of the Robert Irvine Foundation team and everyone at USAA for helping bring this to life. This is just the beginning.

Several months ago, you may recall that I wanted to help out my friend and fellow EOD veteran, John Navar, with his project to spread awareness about juvenile diabetes. My grand niece, Lauryn, died from this disease. Because of your support, they ran out of Diabetic Barbies. Now, they've secured 10,000 more, so here's a link if you would like to help. Thank you. facebook.com/share/p/1D7ZaDu…

There’s a new EOD guy on 𝕏! Go follow @SGMThadSmith! He’s a former EOD Operator in one of our country’s most elite units. He has a book coming out early next year! Between him and SGM Mike Vining (@BlastingThrough) you’re about to learn a ton about EOD at the highest levels.

Integrity and Leadership During the Delta Force stress phase of the selection process, our rucksack required weight increased from 45 to 50 pounds and finally to 55 pounds. We ran solo through unforgiving terrain with our rucksack, a weapon, a map, and a compass. We were not allowed to use roads or trails. A few people would attempt to cheat the system and take a road or trail, thinking that they would get by with it. They did not know that cadres were watching. They were allowed to finish the course, but at the Commanders Board, they would be asked if they had used a road or trail. If they lied, they were immediately removed from the selection process. It was much better to own up to cheating the system than lying about it. Our moral compass is as important as our real compass. Before anything we attempt in life, it always turns out better to keep our moral compass, in other words, our integrity, as close to the vest as our directional one. Integrity, our personal character, is one of the foundational cornerstones of leadership.

We have a joke in EOD that we are glorified garbage collectors. In truth, we are First Responders. We rid the world of hazardous munitions and explosives. Not every incident is dramatic. Most aren’t. We pick up the ordnance, transport it safely, and destroy it properly. We do this hundreds of times. There is a chance that one time something goes wrong, and we don’t get to do it hundreds of times anymore. The photo is of the EOD Memorial at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
