Check out our preprint on the Doa10 E3 ligase, the key player in ERAD-C. We combined cryo-EM, MD simulations (another cool collaboration with JC Gumbart and Diane Lynch!), and biochemical approaches to reveal how Doa10 recognizes its substrate proteins. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…
Updates: This is now published in Nature Communications. nature.com/articles/s41467-0… In revision, we tested a few more substrates, including TA proteins. All seems to interact directly with the "lateral tunnel" we identified.
Our story about the mitochondrial TIM23 complex is finally out @Nature rdcu.be/de4jn after >1.5yr revision. Great, forceful teamwork between Sue Sim and Yuanyuan Chen and fantastic collaboration with JC Gumbart's group.
Combining cryo-EM, mutational analysis, in-vivo photocrosslinking, and MD simulations, we show mitochondrial protein import across the inner membrane is mediated by the cavity formed by the Tim17 subunit, not by Tim23 as previously thought.

Replying to @Nature
@nature, researchers present cryo-EM and related data to show the mechanism that by which the TIM23 complex mediates protein import into mitochondria is not quite as was previously thought.

Our work on the S1P transporter Spns2 is online @CellCellPress. The work was led by @shah_med @HongtuZhao, and a wonderful collaboration with @XiaochunLi2. We revealed the transport and inhibition mechanisms of this important sphingolipid transporter.

Excited to share our new work out today in @ScienceMagazine, led by stellar postdoc Regina @hijaishin!
We report the discovery of LYCHOS, a candidate cholesterol sensor for the mTORC1 kinase. Below is a brief summary of the story.
Our lab's first tweet! We are very excited to share our new preprint on the mechanism of Sec61 translocon inhibition by small molecules (7 distinct compounds). We thank our collaborators!
