The Specials - Gangsters (1979)
This and 'Ghost Town' are still my favourites by the legendary Ska/2-Tone group. Terry Hall's lead vocals were recorded in a "bored vocal" and "angry vocal" mixing the two together. Became their first hit single, peaking at #6 in the UK.

When Vinnie Jones joined Sheffield United in 1990, he found himself playing alongside a man who had an even bigger reputation for being a hard man than he did.
Billy Whitehurst had been a bricklayer before becoming a professional footballer, and by the time Jones arrived at Bramall Lane, he had frightened some of the biggest defenders in the country.
Neil Ruddock admitted Whitehurst “scared the life out of me.”
Years later, when Jones was asked what it was like being the hardest man in football, he pointed towards Whitehurst sitting in the audience.
“You best ask that man.”
The two had played together at Sheffield United, where nights out occasionally brought them into contact with supporters from their biggest rivals.
There was a bar called Henry’s on Cambridge Street where the players regularly went drinking.
“Sheffield Wednesday players never went out.”
“They didn’t go out in case they bumped into us.”
But one night, Whitehurst and Jones were drinking in Henry’s with some of their teammates when a group of around 30 Sheffield Wednesday supporters came into the bar.
They started giving Jones stick, and eventually a confrontation developed between the two groups.
Whitehurst looked across at them.
“What?”
“What is it?”
The Wednesday supporters were more than happy to respond.
“You can turn back around as well, you ugly b******.”
Billy was never going to take that lightly.
“Come on then.”
“Your best two against our best two.”
The confrontation moved outside the bar, with Jones and Whitehurst taking on two of the Wednesday supporters.
It did not last very long.
“They pasted them.”
“Just laid them out.”
Whitehurst caught one of the men with a punch that left him on the ground.
“I floored him with one punch.”
“I thought I’d killed him.”
Even though Jones was a “self-confessed creator of havoc”, he had never seen anything quite like the punch Billy threw.
“Billy threw one of the best right-handers I’ve ever seen.”
“Inside or outside a prize-fight ring.”
And rather than making a big fuss about what had just happened, the two footballers walked straight back into Henry’s.
“Two pints please!”

Round one of “Hagler vs Hearns” is undoubtedly the greatest opening round in boxing history. This should be posted here once a week. I don’t care how many times I see it, it never gets old.

Aberfan 60 Years On.
Today marks 60 years since 116 children and 28 adults were killed in the Aberfan disaster in 1966.
I was brought up living next to a pit slag heap and Aberfan was something that was spoken about throughout our village and at school in the years after the disaster.
Mining communities are tight knit communities where everyone knows everyone so this tragedy would have hurt everyone in the village.
My thoughts are with the people of Aberfan today.

In the dark welsh valley,
On the mountain side,
Lay the little children
Close to where they died.
Their little lives are ended
Before they reach their goal,
Tender little children
Have paid the price of coal.
We will never forget - Aberfan 21-10-66 #AberfanDisaster

Well after today’s announcement from the Bank of England, there is something very, very, very wrong in the system.
So … let me get this straight:
* British Gas made a profit of £1.3bn between January & June
* BP announced profits of £6.95 billion between April and June alone
* Shell has profited by £9.4bn in a year
The MEN at the top:
* John Pettigrew, boss of National Grid received £6.5m bonus on top of his salary
* Chris O’Shea, chief executive of British Gas owner Centrica was paid almost £2m last year in salary and benefits
* Centrica's non-executive directors were paid almost £1m
* Scottish Power's CEO Keith Anderson is on £1.15m.
* E.On boss Michael Lewis is on £1m
* EDF's Simone Rossi is also on £1m
* And their top execs enjoyed a share of £4.65m
* Peter Simpson of Anglian Water earned a £1.3m pay package
* Welsh Water bosses awarded themselves bonuses of over £930,000
* Severn Trent bosses awarded themselves bonuses of £5.56m
* Thames Water's Sarah Bentley, received a £727,000 bonus on top of her £2m annual salary
Meanwhile there are...
* People who haven't had breakfast and/or lunch TODAY, because they can't afford it.
* People using FoodBanks because food is becoming more of a luxury than a necessity.
* Children celebrating a birthday without presents.
* Parents worrying about new school uniforms - and some schools enforcing rules which are not cost-effective.
* People who can't get to work because they can't afford to put petrol in their cars/pay for public transport anymore.
* People who are working so much they're making themselves ill, and they STILL CAN'T AFFORD to pay their bills.
* People who have been given fines by these same energy/water companies because they couldn't afford to pay their bills in the first place - increasing their debt.
* Customers being told to do STAR JUMPS TO KEEP WARM for crying out loud!
* Hose pipe bans when gallons of water leak away everyday.
* Elderly people NOT DRINKING because they're worried about running out of water!!!
All this and energy prices are set to rise up to 75% in October...
THIS IS MADNESS!.. I'm all for supporting profits … I'm not for supporting greed at the cost of lives of others.
Something needs to change.
Why is customers' money being used to make life more comfortable for those who are making life more intolerable for the rest of us?
I actually don't understand how the energy companies are allowed to get away with this and why the government aren't stopping them instead of handing out money.....
