Ron Johnson opened the COVID-19 Hospital Protocols Roundtable: “Real Stories from Real People.” He began with deep respect for doctors and nurses—his daughter’s lifesaving heart surgery at age eight months is why. Then he described what went wrong. THE TRANSCRIPT Senator Ron Johnson: "Welcome to this event, titled, Covid-19 Hospital Protocol: Real Stories from Real People. Without dispute, the early news and images coming out of China, Italy, and New York City as we were coping with SARS-CoV-2 were alarming. Healthcare workers on the front lines in those hot spots were appropriately hailed as heroes. Citizens banging pots and pans together from open windows at shift change, to show their appreciation. Not only were we grateful for their courage and hard work in response to the pandemic, we also were and are grateful for previous lifesaving or life-improving treatments we received from skilled and caring doctors and nurses. In my own case, my daughter Carey was born with a serious congenital heart defect. A lifesaving procedure was performed within hours of her birth and open heart surgery at the age of 8 months. She’s now 42 years old and the mother of two wonderful children. So I entered the pandemic with a deep respect and a sincere appreciation for doctors, nurses, and the marvels of what modern medicine has accomplished. Unfortunately, there were leaders who used the fear of the unknown to gain undue power and control over our response to Covid. Even though on February 9, 2020, Anthony Fauci privately confided to his diary a 0.2 to 0.3% case fatality rate for Covid, with transmissibility “like a bad influenza”, he publicly predicted an overall mortality around 2-3%, about 10 times as bad a seasonal flu. He and others used this scaremongering to push the societal lockdowns, mandates, and protocols that devastated people’s lives and global economies. The use of cheap, generic drugs for early treatment was sabotaged to pave the way for the Emergency Use Authorization of two highly-profitable pharmaceuticals: an experimental gene therapy, injection (the vaccine), and the costly in-hospital drug, Remdesivir. A drug nurses referred to as, “Run! Death is near!” And the World Health Organization recommended against using it. Rigid adherence to hospital protocols, rarely questioned, became the norm, which many doctors saw as violating the Hippocratic oath’s core duty: patients first. Not protocols. Far too often, the stories of Covid hospitalizations were horrific. And we will hear some today. Patients lost their freedom. Family members could not visit and comfort their dying loved ones. Patient and family members’ requests to administer multi-drug protocols using the cheap, widely-available, FDA-approved, generic drugs were rejected in favor of highly expensive Remdesivir and ventilators with a depressingly low rate of success. Affluent America with 4% of the world’s population accounted for 16% of Covid deaths globally. In many of the testimonies received for this event, the callous comments by doctors and nurses to unvaccinated patients and their families are almost unbelievable."
