This piece is finally out in the Journal of Media Psychology!: econtent.hogrefe.com/doi/abs…. The paper was originally selected as one of the top 4 papers and presented at the media psychology conference in Luxembourg last year!
Special thanks to the editor-in-chief of the @JMP_Hogrefe , @bowmanspartan, and reviewers for their constructive feedback ;)
Our experiment has yielded interesting results regarding the distinctive role of MR and VR on emotional states through the mediation of the plausibility illusion! If you are interested in the findings of our study, feel free to DM me!
Uur team was interested in whether the para-authenticity and artificiality of an entity (i.e., Tarantula vs. Imaginary King Scorpion), when visualized via MR or VR, would make a difference in evaluating the plausibility of that entity.
In addition to the comparison, we tested the moderating role of "object virtuality," as proposed theoretically by Lee (2004) in his paper where he explicated the concept of presence.
In this paper, our team conducted a study comparing emotional responses (arousal and perceived fear) toward a fearful object visualized using mixed reality (MR; HoloLens 2) and virtual reality (VR; HTC Vive) technologies through the theoretical lens of the plausibility illusion.
