I wept like a Sicilian widow today.
I celebrated a life, oh, SUCH a life.
I resolved to carry his example forward, to whatever my meagre capabilities will permit.
I will remember.
Sir Patrick, on the ocean.

Captain Picard. Professor X. A Shakespearean giant whose voice carried generations of fans across the stars and back to the stage.
Sir Patrick Stewart has passed away at 86.
What many fans may not know: in 2012, he came to Israel to star in "Hunting Elephants," an Israeli comedy shot in Jerusalem, alongside Israeli screen legends Sasson Gabai and Moni Moshonov. He had first visited a year earlier and said he told his family and friends he wanted to come back - this time not as a tourist, but as part of an Israeli film.
As he wrapped up his stay, he wrote: "I will miss Israel - the place, the people, the food."
The film went on to open the 2013 Jerusalem Film Festival, where the director had the crowd send him a message: "We love you, Patrick!"
He also supported the American Jewish World Service.
Thank you, Sir Patrick, for the stories, the dignity, and the warmth you shared with Israel and the world. The people of Israel will miss you too.
May his memory forever be a blessing. ๐ฏ๏ธ

This is Webbโs look at Westerlund 1, a super star cluster. Because our galaxy is past its peak of star formation, and because stars live relatively short lives, only a few of these clusters exist to give us clues to that past era.

ALT Image description: A quote by Captain Jean-Luc Picard, played by Patrick Stewart. "I've come to believe that the stars have always been in my favor." - Jean-Luc Picard. The image shows a dense cluster of bright stars, each with six large and two small diffraction spikes, due to the telescopeโs optics. They have a variety of sizes depending on their brightness and distance from us in the cluster, and different colors reflecting different types of star. Patches of billowing red gas can be seen in and around the cluster, lit up by the stars. Small stars in the cluster blend into a background of distant stars and galaxies on black.
My biggest concern is that if there is a clean sweep by Democrats of the House, Senate and Presidency in 2028, they will:
1. Make DC and Puerto Rico states to gain a strong majority in the Senate.
2. Open the borders and legalize everyone living in America illegally to cement a permanent majority.
3. Increase the size of the Supreme Court to gain an immediate majority.
This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word.
All that is needed to ensure this doesnโt happen is 51 Republican senators in 2029. That is why you should vote for Republican senators this election. Other reasons are irrelevant compared to this one.

Sir Ian McKellen pays tribute to Sir Patrick Stewart:
โBefore everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we werenโt in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in โStar Trekโ. โBut Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to riskโgetting lost in Hollywood for years and years?โ. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes (โX-Menโ of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in Londonโs West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.โ

Patrick was one of those icons who we somehow all took for granted would always be with us.
I grew up as a fan, and was later gifted the privilege of becoming a colleague and friend, working with him for many years on โAmerican Dad!โ, โFamily Guyโ, and โTedโ. He was that rare actor who could take any bit of dialogue and elevate it, making a good writer sound great, and a great writer sound masterful. He was also as humble as they come. I remember exchanging emails with him a number of years ago when he was beginning day 1 of a new film. He commented to me that he always walked onto a new set feeling like the biggest novice there. My stunned reaction was the same as anyoneโs would be. I said, โPatrick, if you feel that way, the rest of us are screwed.โ We have lost a legendary actor today, and for many of us, a good friend. He will be deeply missed by the entire planet.

This was the moment I had dream of, the moment I had feared. Patrick Stewart walking onto the bridge of the USS Enterprise that I had recreated. Would he hate it would he love it. What would this moment feel like. For months we agonized over every detail, then the moment came and he walked onto the bridge and moved to the chair that had helped define his career and he sat down. I clicked the shot as that smile fell over his face. This is how I will remember him. Such an honor to have had the opportunity to work with such an extraordinary individual. He will be greatly missed.

If you haven't had the chance. Listen to his autobiography on audiobook as he narrates it himself. I listened to it on one long roadtrip during a very challenging time and it's truly a gift.

RIP Sir Patrick Stewart, he was originally the narrator for Nightmare Before Christmas but the makers decided to go in a different direction but Danny Elfman loved Stewart's narration so much that it was included on the soundtrack. Here's Stewart's closing narration:

Patrick Stewart was once filmed dancing and singing on the bridge of the USS Enterprise-D in 1991 as a birthday surprise for Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. Though never intended for public release, a copy of the clip eventually surfaced as a bonus feature on a DVD.

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admirationย for him and his work.
My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.
