Victor and I walked into the Faculty office and submitted our Part B projects together. We trained together and became consultants together and we have worked alongside each other for 25 years. He is a gentleman and a champion of inclusive public health.
#BlackHistoryMonth 2024, themed ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ inspires us to recognise perspectives and lived experiences.
We asked Dr Victor Joseph to reflect on his journey as a public health leader and to share words of advice for future Black and minority ethnic leaders.

For black history month, I wrote this piece for the FPH blog about inequalities in maternal health outcomes. There’s so much great work going on (shout out here to my midwifery and obstetric/neonatal colleagues) but we still have a long way to go together.
This #BlackHistoryMonth, FPH Sexual and Reproductive Health SIG member @FrenchieDowling reflects on the persistent and unacceptable inequalities impacting black mothers and their babies, and the importance of “learning to listen.”
