Honestly, just work hard, save your money, support your friends and family, be a friendly and compassionate person, and avoid being bitter. Just avoid chasing women for sex, and you’ll live a happy and healthy life. Just keep some platonic friends for brownies. :-)

TIL because I assumed the freight was segregated given the number of services run by Sydney Trains and the significant surplus infrastructure that I see on Google Maps.

I'm shocked that it's that much of a difference.
Is it purely from the rolling stock difference because in theory, the mainline stuff can be nearly as good at acceleration if you specify it in purchasing new stock, or is it from the new metro alignment with only one stop between Sydenham and Central?
Or is it both? :-)

even worse is that it's not even a payroll tax is a per person premium so it's more regressive.

Walmart target Amazon warehouses are the effective minimum wage and the quality of life is better any business for anything more skilled than like basic retail needs to be paying at minimum 25 an hour to get anyone who's marginally confident

I took a machining class before switching majors and the teacher literally said "there's no point to learning this they pay the same as McDonald's"

How long would the trip take when it was run with the previous rolling stock?
The vast majority of American Evangelicals have internalized puritanism, or at its values, into a warped form of idealistic asceticism; one that explicitly allows for long-standing cultural establishments to be excepted. The "default" assumption is novelty = "Evil", the burden is on the subject to prove virtue. Once things have existed for long enough as norms, they are considered to be generally acceptable.
( This is why you don't see any objection to the real mythic and pagan symbology in use across governments and institutions; and why films/music/media thought to be corrupting in their day become the bedrock of their culture. )
Most Evangelicals have a deep cultural respect for the Amish/Mennonite communities for this reason; their abstinence from society is seen as intrinsically virtuous, but flawed for the reason that it prevents effective proselytizing (Which is the ultimate virtue for an evangelical). When proselytizing is assumed to be unavailable (For the reason that the evangelical "assumes" he/she lives is in the majority), the evangelical turns towards self-policing their community in order to reach that 2nd-tier of virtue.
Now, there are theological reasons for all this; but in general, most people don't have that level of rationalization going on internally, they're just following the cultural pattern of their community.

And I say that as someone who was on the first PATH train into World Trade Center after 9/11.

Not only is this true but it was creating some ironic situations. I had friends who worked for BRC in NYC trying to get the homeless off the trains and the homeless started to support Trump because they felt the migrants were taking resources away from them. Despite the fact a good deal of these people often wouldn't even take help offered

It’s not even just about “nice,” but basic safety. Large parts of Chicago are very nice. If I showed pictures of tree-lined streets with tidy bungalows and brick apartments to a Brazilian friend, they’d assume they were desirable areas. But there is intolerable gun violence and insecurity.

I consider myself to be YIMBY, and I wouldn't argue that I have a hate for anything that's a reminder of the past.
I just want more housing stock to be built to prevent price escalation, and yes, some of it is going to replace older styles of housing from previous eras.

I hate to sound like an Unc, but if this is true, it speaks to a bigger problem I’ve been noticing. Growing up, if you lost a fight, you took your L and kept it movin. Nowadays, too many young ppl are quick to pick up a gun because they can’t handle losing a fight.

Truthfully, even if you froze the zoning, somebody has to maintain this building and pay the appropriate property taxes so it doesn't turn into eyesore.

The only fair way is to establish a historical fund that purchases and preserves historical buildings.
It is not fair to punish property owners.
