The Conversion Bill makes it a crime to say "I want you to grow up to be a happy lesbian, I don't believe you were born in the wrong body" This is crazy.

This is such an important point from Joyce. "If my husband takes my phone away from me as an adult, that's coercive control, if I do that to my child that might be responsible parenting" That's one of the many problems with the conversion bill, it treats children like adults.
“If my husband takes my phone away from me because he doesn’t want me contacting people, that’s coercive control. If I do that to my child, that maybe responsible parenting” Well said @HJoyceGender! #BinTheBill

Listening to the Conversion Practices Committee today has reinforced my concern that the wellbeing of detransitioners is simply not being considered by the Government. It is deeply worrying to hear discussions that appear to overlook the significant impact this Bill could have on detransitioners, our ability to speak openly about our experiences, and the support we need to move forward with our lives. Our lived experiences matter. We must be given the opportunity to have our voices heard, particularly when legislation could directly affect our ability to access appropriate therapy, process our experiences, recover and rebuild our lives. A Bill intended to protect people must not come at the expense of silencing another group who are already too often overlooked. I am therefore calling on the Government to ensure that detransitioners are included in any discussions, consultations or working groups seeking lived experience. Our voices must be heard, our experiences must be acknowledged, and our wellbeing must be taken seriously. @DPUK26 @ABarrosCurtis @oliviabaileymp @DannyBeales @NazShahBfd

.@Jebadoo2 was on fire today. Patiently explaining criminal law after a panel of activists with a distressingly low comprehension of what they were asking for.
Barrister @Jebadoo2 explains how a parent saying to their child they should love their body could meet every element of the Government’s proposed ‘conversion practices’ offence. As Dennis says, all it takes is one difficult, distressing argument for a parent to be wide open to the risk of prosecution. How can Women and Equalities Minister Bridget Phillipson claim the Bill “will not impinge on” parents’ ability to have difficult conversations with their children?

This afternoon our Vice Chair, Dermot Kehoe, gave evidence at the Joint Committee on the draft Conversion Practices bill. Parents should never feel afraid to tell their child “I don’t believe you’re born in the wrong body… but I do believe you’re my gay son and I support you in that”. You can watch the whole meeting here: parliamentlive.tv/Event/Inde…

This was sickening. A man getting himself to the point where he claimed that arguing about gender with your confused child might be the same as slicing off your daughter's clitoris. Shame on him.
No no no don't you invoke the gravity of (& hide behind) the traumatic issue of FGM when MP asked you to explain if a parent refusing to affirm gender identity of their child would be prosecutable. This Trispiotis chap is struggling to answer any Q clearly. #ConversionPractices

We are sure that @mariecgoldman had some urgent business. It would be unconscionable that a member of the committee was only prepared to listen to views that accorded with her own, lest her biases be challenged. It would hardly be democratic or liberal.
Is it usual for a member of a scrutiny committee to hear only one side of oral evidence then leave? Do both sides not deserve the respect of listening to them? Was she bored, have an appointment, need a long lunch hour. We should be informed. @mariecgoldman #BinTheBill

For the transactivists who've decided I abused my son, here are the sorts of reasons he said he'd tell the police on me: no to fire-eater at b'day party/£200 football boots/drinking vinegar; requests to pick up towel/put plate in sink/get dressed. He was a kid, arrest me. More /1
If I had a pound for every time my son said he was going to tell the police about me I'd have many pounds. The idea that he could actually do so because I'd tried to persuade him not to take harmful & irreversible medication in a vain attempt to become a woman is terrifying.

3/It's no oversight that the #ConversionBill has no parental carve-out, no reasonableness defence & no requirement that the perpetrator intends to act abusively or to cause harm. As @HJoyceGender says here, it doesn't distinguish between kids & adults> nitter.cf/roseveniceallan/status…

Well the point of the Bill for trans activists is not really to secure convictions, it’s to make parents and therapists so scared of offering supportive questioning that they simply ‘affirm’ the kid’s declaration of a ‘gender identity’
Replying to @Jebadoo2
Most importantly, if the politicians are unable to answer those questions in the abstract, how do they expect parents to know what constitutes illegality.

“We could amend this Bill here, there and everywhere, carve out this, tweak that, but at the end of the day the government would still be passing a Bill that says there’s one area, and one area only, of medical practice where you could get prosecuted if you put a foot wrong. That won’t be a chilling effect, that’ll be a deep freeze” Magnificent from @Jebadoo2 #BinTheBill

I want you all to know this. There are 650 MPs in Parliament. Yet the one MP chosen by @UKLabour to Chair the Bill Committee for the controversial, dangerous and dismally bad draft legislation, the Conversion Practices Bill, is Alex Barros-Curtis. Until July 2024, when Alex was given a very safe Labour seat in Cardiff, he was the Head of the Labour Party's Governance and Legal Unit in London. This was a department set up to investigate complaints against members of the Labour Party. Complaints of antisemitism, Islamophobia, abuse, and of course latterly, mostly women holding legally-protected 'Gender Critical' (sex realist) beliefs. Alex oversaw the investigation of hundreds of members who liked or tweeted gender critical or feminist views. I was one of them. He investigated me, as a sitting Labour MP, for 13 months. 13 months to 'investigate' one like of one tweet. I had a great lawyer, one of the names we're all now familiar with, and I had to crowdfund to pay for his (excellent) work. They first tried in 2020. But the screenshots crudely attached to that passive aggressive, threatening-sounding email from LP admin staff were so risible that I replied that it was too ridiculous for me to waste my precious time on. They left it. Years of Starmer bumbling and stuttering through interviews about whether he had spoken to me, whether he supported me, etc followed. My feminist sins continued apace. And then I 'liked' a tweet by my GC comedian friend @Glinner. He had mocked Eddie'Suzy' for comparing his choice to wear traditional women's clothing, fake plastic breasts and nails, to those being persecuted by the Nazis during WWII. I found his sarcasm, as a award-winning comedy writer in the face of such offensive narcissism amusing and so 'liked' it. I found it absurd and obscene that Izzard, an extremely privileged and wealthy man, who openly changed his 'gender' at will, should write himself into history falseley as someone who would have been oppressed due to a circumstance beyond his control. We all know the groups who were tortured, starved and killed... There is obviously more to my story, I will tell it all, it's just one chapter of the years of spiteful abusive and bullying practices meted out to me by the Labour Party managers. Not those who'd achieved office on merit, or even unexpectedly, but those in the club, often having failed to be elected themselves. So Barros-Curtis who we were repeatedly told led 'the many *independent* inquiries into women members and MPs like me, now often stands as a trans-rights activist on the Labour backbenches. He has also been gifted the role of Chair of this Committee and is a huge supporter of this Bill. And I am not a part of the Bill Committee, although plenty of TRA MPs are. Does that sound like the democratic scrutiny of legislation to you?

No-one listening with an open mind to @HJoyceGender of @SexMattersOrg, @Jebadoo2 of @MensNetwork1 & Dermot of @AllianceLGB could fail to conclude that Convers Practices Bill is a legal mess. @andyburnham needs to consider whether he really wants what will also be a pol disaster

The Conversion Practices Bill makes no distinction between children and adults. "If my husband takes my phone away... that's coercive control. If I do that to my child that may be responsible parenting." @HJoyceGender nails key arguments: more quotes and videos to follow.

I’ve now been contacted by numerous people about the ‘Boob Man of Oxford’. Those who work or study at Oxford have asked for anonymity, so I can’t share identifying details. But some common themes have emerged: - Unsurprisingly, women describe feeling uncomfortable about a male lecturer wearing what appear to be oversized prosthetic breasts in their place of work or study - Some question whether there is a sexual element or whether it is a ‘power play’. These are their concerns, rather than established explanations for his behaviour - but are legitimate concerns nonetheless - They say they’re afraid to raise concerns because he is surrounded by ‘allies’, including staff, who defend his appearance as 'self-expression' One source has even wondered whether this is an elaborate stunt to embarrass the university - along the lines of Josh Seiter, who pretended to be a trans woman as an 'experiment'. Another source says this has been going on for three years - which does seem a long time to keep up the act. There is interest in covering this in the mainstream press. What would help now is more documentary evidence: complaint letters, responses or correspondence showing how concerns have been handled. My inbox is open: [email protected]. Happy to have a confidential chat about any aspect of this. All messages treated in confidence.

Mothers who “transition” while raising children are incredibly selfish. It’s all about them...their wrong-sex delusion and self-gratification. Do they ever consider the damage done to their kids, who are forced to watch their mother destroy her body and then call her "Dad"?

There could be an annual award, like the bad sex writing prize. The bad legislation prize, all 4 UK legislative bodies eligible to be nominated.
Replying to @LucyHunterB
Conversion Practices Bill falls at first hurdle of “what problem does this solve”. Maybe Holyrood gave inspiration from Dog theft Bill and Banning Greyhound tracks that don’t operate in Scotland? Shouldn’t Scotland’s two legislatures be trying to ‘out competence’ each other?
