"Local elections are well known to be a sneaky plot by the Democrats" is truly a fascinating new turn for small-government conservatives.
“People voted and now I’m sad” is apparently a sufficient answer when local elections produce progressive control of city or county government.
It is not a sufficient answer, according to the same account, when a statewide majority of North Carolina voters is asked to approve a constitutional amendment limiting local property-tax levy growth.
The amendment only takes effect if a majority of the state’s voters ratify it. If the legislature is out of step with the people, the measure fails. That is a clearer popular check than many low-turnout local elections. Local control is a means, not an absolute right to unbounded taxation. #ncpol
The Democrats are officially going up with ads against @RepRichHudson in NC-09 (R+8).
Hudson, who chairs the @NRCC, has recently begun diverting money into campaign mailers in his own unexpectedly tight race against challenger @Ojeda4America.
Reminder: unless you're literally a Duke Energy or datacenter lobbyist, voting against all three amendments is in your best self-interest as a North Carolinian.

Actual county commissioner here. A 40% increase on property taxes due to revaluation almost always means the property increased in value by 40%, which dwarfs the tax increase. Revals ensure fairness in tax burden, and the proposed amendment has nothing to do with good government.

Duke didn't overcharge, the utility commission improperly approved their fuel rider which covered costs. This was changed by a bipartisn House vote. If the entire disputed amount was paid back, it would have equated to less than $5 per customer in refunds.
The kids today will never believe it, but there was a time when "conservatives" opposed top-down state government takeovers of local control, because they claimed that questions of taxation were best decided by the people directly taxed.
The conservative movement is just... different now.
Article VII of the North Carolina Constitution explicitly places the organization, government, and powers of counties and other local subdivisions under the General Assembly’s control (subject to other constitutional limits).
Courts and legal analyses consistently treat local governments as agents or political subdivisions of the state rather than sovereign entities with independent existence. States can (and occasionally do) abolish, merge, or strip county governments of functions, as Connecticut did with its county governments in the mid-20th century. North Carolina is not a pure home-rule state; local authority is largely statutory and remains subordinate to state law. #ncpol
Perhaps the real "class warfare" is wealthy corporations pushing tax cuts that mainly benefit their balance sheets, and offloading their tax burden onto everyday people instead?
Because that's exactly what's happening here. Who will think of poor, defenseless Duke Energy???
One proposed state constitutional amendment on North Carolina ballots this fall would authorize a state government takeover of local property tax decisions.
So who would win, and who would lose, under such a system? Well, follow the money on our new tool to find out who really benefits most.
We recommend North Carolinians vote AGAINST all three amendments.

FYI, the other part of this that @ncspeakerhall doesn't want you to know is that Senate Republicans in @MyNCSenate killed this bill and it didn't go anywhere.
But "accomplishment"... okay. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Wow. Why would @LawrenceShaheen @simmonsncgop do this??
Why is the Voter Education Network PAC—whose treasurer, former NCGOP Finance Chair Larry Shaheen, (appointed under Whatley and continued under Simmons)—sending mailers directing North Carolina voters to ncvoter.org, a site run by Democracy NC-A RADICAL GEORGE SOROS FUNDED DEMOCRAT GROUP?
WHAT IS GOING ON??
The campaign manager for @RepSarahStevens here has pretty much given up on their race, so he's puffing this @NCHouseGOP race instead.
This "unreal malpractice" by the Democrats might just flip a Trump +12, Wheatley +15 seat this year. Sad!
I remember a specific conversation with @stancil_luke in 2024 that Janene Ackles was maybe the single most flawed candidate either of us had ever seen. Unreal malpractice that this is who NC Dems are backing in 2026. #ncpol #ncga
Not only did the leaders of North Carolina's state legislature not do this themselves, they actually passed a bill - Senate Bill 266 - that did the opposite. SB 266 forces all NC ratepayers to subsidize datacenters through higher bills to Duke Energy.

Are the Democrats now "favored" to win the NC House?
Honest answer: no one really knows. Predicting individual races is very tricky. But...
North Carolina's election maps are absolutely purpose-drawn to suppress our state's voters in such a way as to make Democratic wins very difficult. Like, that's the point.
So for Democrats to even have a whiff of a prayer of winning real governing power in our state legislature requires a truly massive coalition of North Carolinians voting for change against the sleazy, rancid corruption that completely pervades our legislature today.
Democrats already win a majority of votes for our State House and State Senate. But that just is not enough, given the outrageous partisan gerrymander in North Carolina. They would need more like an 8-10 point over-performance on that just to clinch a majority of seats in the State House alone - even more in the State Senate.
That is possible this year. But is it favored? Truly, no one knows.
But if it happens, it'll be because of guys like @BrendenJonesNC - the Republican Majority Leader - outright lying on the floor of the People's House to try to steer a massively inflated, no-bid contract to a bunch of scummy developers who gave him money.
Political corruption thrives under partisan gerrymandering, as North Carolina has plainly shown over the last 15 years. We're going to find out soon whether the voters have had enough.

If your political movement depends on millionaires pretending they are offended by the suggestion that the Cheesecake Factory is chintzy, you’re cooked. Like, that is the literal death rattle.
.@BobbyHanig, the Republican former state senator whose political career @SenatorBerger effectively ended in retribution, is following the well-trodden path on Jones Street to become a lobbyist at Ward & Smith.
Have you voted yet? 🗳️

A follow up to my analysis: Zooming in on cannibalism- specifically looking at voters who usually vote on Election Day, now voting early. The hope is that Dems are converting ED to EV voters. It’s simply not true. In fact Republicans are doing it at higher rates.
