De Gasperi is a statesmen you should know about. A model for our time.
"Today, everyone remembers the name of Mussolini, but far fewer know the name of De Gasperi. This is backward." | The Monday Essay by @Zheschool

A timely piece on Italy’s anti-Fascist, anti-Communist post-war leader De Gaspari by @Zheschool
“It was precisely from his Catholic faith that he derived his opposition to all statism. God created each person in his image and endowed each one with freedom and responsibility, De Gaspari believed.”

Another story impossible to imagine in any other administration: the president's son goes hunting with a Russian criminal who is part of Putin's security entourage
The trip highlights the remarkable relationship between a son of the US president and a tycoon with a criminal record who has close ties to Vladimir Putin’s personal security service. Intelligence experts say such connections are ripe for manipulation. ft.trib.al/p0LBRYI

“the worst kind of tough guy is the tough guy who isn’t actually tough, and if there is one thing that can be said with absolute certainty about J.D. Vance, it is that he is a coward—specifically, a moral coward”.

Ostracism in pursuit of virtue is no vice. Sorry, NETTR crowd.
The struggle between character and purpose when making political choices is often fierce. Few great statesmen were saints. Both parties have sinners. #WSJopinion #WSJ

Listen to Che D Vance discuss his disdain for conservatives and the free society at a conference funded George Soros, the progressive Hewlett Foundation, Peter Thiel, etc. Thanks to @jasonahart.
Background on @JDVance's never-released speech to a 2022 @SohrabAhmari conference makes this clip an even bigger red flag parade.
Seven months before Vance gave this speech, Ahmari cofounded @compactmag, which "seeks a new political center devoted to the common good." The postliberal outlet breathlessly promotes Sohrab's friend JD; in July 2024, Ahmari wrote that Vance's selection as Trump's running mate "vindicates Compact's project."
By the time Ahmari left Compact at the end of 2024, the magazine's nonprofit arm had received $450,000 in grants from George Soros's Open Society Foundations.
In 2023, 100% of the revenue reported by "Compact Institute of Ideas Inc" came from a $200,000 Open Society Action Fund grant "to support the Grantee's work to provide a critical view on trends from the left and right."
In 2024, 66% of the nonprofit's revenue came in the form of a $250,000 Foundation to Promote Open Society grant "to educate the public on heterodox ideas and promote intellectual debate through content produced by the Compact Institute of Ideas."
Compact cofounder Edwin Aponte, an avowed Marxist, told reporters in 2024 that Claremont Institute chairman Tom Klingenstein provided start-up funding for the project.
As @mjnblack discovered in 2025, Compact shares a tax ID with its for-profit parent: the aptly named "Horseshoe Mag, Inc." - in which The Thiel Foundation has invested $686,500.

Thankfully, France and Great Britain have a veto they can use to block this absolutely idiotic idea.
I also doubt Xi would go along with it.

This morning, I joined Fox News @FoxNews to warn that Russian intelligence is providing Vucic with a regime preservation package. Western intelligence should expose their activities in advance and monitor the use of force against protesters today.

Serbia's nationalist leader Vucic followed an Orbanesque course. He embraced Trump, and Trump family corruption, and sold himself to greedy MAGAs as a like-minded nationalist. Serbian is even hosting a CPAC.
But he just lost in anti-corruption landslide.

🇷🇸🇪🇺 Goodbye, Putin.
Putin has just lost another ally in Europe: Serbia.
In the same year, he loses both Orbán and Serbia.
The student-backed list is projected to win an outright parliamentary majority.
The entire Balkans, Eastern Europe and Central Asia will be in Europe’s orbit.
Whether you like it or not, Moscow.

Hello @elonmusk, Hitler historian here, having researched & written about Hitler for 22 yrs & being a fellow of the Hoover Institution - not exactly a hotbed of far left ideas. This doesn’t add up. It is predicated on the false assumption that collectivism only exists on the Left

The return of Maria Corina Machado to Venezuela is good news for the United States & the transition process.
Only with a democratic and free market regime can Venezuela attract investment to produce oil, lift people from poverty, welcome back migrants, and end narco trafficking.

Until people understand that there was a a systematic takeover of significant conservative institutions over the last few years, and that those institutions are all working together to pull off a revolution in the Republican Party and even conservatism in America, it just keeps getting worse.

Trump was never sending Kushner and Witkoff to broker peace. He was having those two crooks sell our Alaskan public land and our Alaskan natural resources to the fucking Russians as if it were his.
