How can Russia credibly mediate between Eritrea and Ethiopia while supplying advanced fighter jets to Ethiopia and potentially providing it with S-400 air-defense systems? Moscow is strengthening the military capabilities of the very country Afwerki warns is preparing for war against Eritrea.
Yet the dictator has nothing to say. He will not challenge Moscow over the implications of arming Ethiopia. Instead, he praises Russia’s “strategic leadership” as though Africa were a single chessboard and every country shared the same interests. They do not. Eritrea and Ethiopia have competing strategic interests, and gains for one can come at the other’s expense.
Afwerki’s silence exposes the emptiness of his foreign policy. He has no independent strategy to defend Eritrea’s interests, no vision for its future, and no plan to protect its sovereignty. He demands that Eritreans sacrifice everything for the nation while pursuing a policy that leaves the country weaker and more exposed.
After decades in power, the dictator’s record speaks for itself: he is not safeguarding Eritrea’s future; he is destroying it.

The U.S. Africa Command’s Africa Defense Forum describes Eritrea as the only stable country in a troubled region. Yet under Isaias Afwerki, economic decline, military deterioration, and the absence of constitutional institutions threaten the very stability that makes Eritrea strategically important.

AFRICOM’s Africa Defense Forum highlights Eritrea’s strategic importance and stability in the troubled Horn of Africa. But Isaias Afwerki is squandering these advantages through economic destruction, military decline, and confrontational regional policies. Eritrea’s strategic value deserves better than one-man rule.

Today, Israel votes. The world is watching.
The world is witnessing democracy in action in the tiny nation-state of the Jewish people, that is unfairly and disproportionately targeted for criticism and pressure at the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League, and within the European Union.
In its first national election since the Hamas terrorist attacks of October 7, 2023, Israel returns to the ballot box, demonstrating the resilience of its democratic institutions.
For Africans and Indigenous peoples everywhere, #Israel and the Jewish people offer lessons that go far beyond technology and innovation. It is a nation that revived Hebrew, the ancient Indigenous language of the Jewish people, and preserved Judaism, the ancient faith deeply rooted in the Land of Israel.
Israel has emerged as a global technological powerhouse while maintaining a vibrant, fiercely contested democratic tradition.
Its story demonstrates how an ancient indigenous people can reclaim and revitalize their ancestral language, preserve their cultural and spiritual heritage, and build a modern nation without abandoning their historical identity.
Wishing the people of Israel a peaceful and successful Election Day!

Lidetu Ayalew claims to oppose Abiy Ahmed, yet his rhetoric may be serving both Abiy and Eritrea’s dictator, Isaias Afwerki. By portraying Ethiopia as preparing to seize Assab, he helps Abiy project power while giving Isaias another excuse to manufacture an external threat and keep Eritreans under permanent mobilization. In opposing one man, Lidetu risks becoming a useful idiot for both.
