The Senior Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Ms. Mari Yamashita, concluded her first official visit to the Republic of Iraq, where she met with Prime Minister Dr. Ali al-Zaidi, Foreign Minister Dr. Fuad Hussein, National Security Advisor Mr. Qasim al-Araji and the Deputy Foreign Minister for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Bahr AlUloom.
She was also hosted by the Iraqi delegation to the Tripartite Commission, led by the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Dr. Farhad Alaaldin, where she was briefed on their work.
Discussions underscored the strong partnership between Iraq and the United Nations and a shared commitment to advancing the implementation of resolution 2792 (2025). Ms. Yamashita expressed appreciation for Iraq’s continued engagement and commitment to achieving further progress on the mandate.
Ms. Yamashita also expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended during her visit to Iraq. She will proceed to the State of Kuwait to continue her official visit.
