I suspect this is being somewhat disingenuously phrased, and what turned the woman off was that he would abort (kill) his child if they were disabled
Went on a Hinge date. Failed the ethically loaded impossible question of “would you choose to have a child with a learning disability?” My answer of “I would love them, but I would choose for my children to be as capable as possible” was not accepted. I am not made for dating!

I find people who talk about their fake TikTok-tistic “stims” really distasteful. A family member of mine has a severe mental disability and is a large, nonverbal adult man. He regularly does actual stims, including flapping his arms, making loud snorting, clicking, and laughing noises, and repeatedly asking for the same thing via loud monosyllabic grunts. These involuntary sounds and movements make it hard for him to be out in the world, as they scare people and draw unwanted attention. He is exactly the kind of person society does virtually nothing to accommodate. That is not the same as quoting the meme phrase of the week to your friends repeatedly.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of my father in law. He passed away suddenly earlier this evening. He was a good man, and a tremendous role model for what it means to be a catholic husband and father. He will be missed by so many. Prayers are appreciated

People are so obtuse about this for some reason. An interview is a very specific social context which is supposed to carry an extra layer of formality compared to normal business casual settings. It’s not the same as day 1,000 in your job where you might be sipping coffee all day or wearing a polo shirt. Showing up with a cup of Starbucks in your hand for your interview sends a lot of subconscious signals: I see this interview as a casual meeting with no enhanced importance, I don’t understand social context and can’t discern the appropriate behavior for the setting, I couldn’t manage my time effectively enough to have finished this drink prior to our interview, etc. Especially in business, a “coffee chat” is an informal, one on one conversation about topics that could range into the personal. An interview is a highly formalized conversation to evaluate a job seeker. Your ability to know the difference is an important factor in talent evaluation in a large organization: does this person understand and respect social norms and the subtle differences in professional settings? That’s pretty important for judging how well they will fit in to your company.
People who aren't autistic are so exhausting. ten thousand people swearing that bringing your own drink to a job interview is unprofessional and zero people able to articulate any reason why. absolutely pathetic

The type of thing that only happens if you win in New York. Brunson is the biggest star the NBA has right now, and he deserves it
That's a wrap. Looks like Jalen Brunson will appear on Law & Order SVU Season 28, Episode 5

If another private company came in and started undercutting competing business by selling at a loss and ultimately drove others to close, that would be illegal under the Sherman antitrust act
Their argument is basically, "Your groceries are too affordable. Please stop.” If your entire business collapses because somebody sells milk and vegetables cheaper, maybe consumers weren't the problem.

If you try to intellectualize this event by talking about “well why did these people decide to do this??” and directly or indirectly infer that somehow this was deserved because of US foreign policy (or something), you are my enemy. This was done to the US because they hate us. They hate that we are rich. They hate that we let women go to school and have jobs. They hate that we don’t worship their prophet and religious texts. These people were and are radical religious fundamentalists, not philosophers.

I’ve been held responsible for slavery my entire life, so I guess turnabout is fair play.
As a Muslim, watching how they're treating Zohran Mamdani breaks my heart. The way they're smearing him with 9/11, it's not just about him — it's a message to every single one of us. 25 years later and we're still being treated as guilty for something we had nothing to do with.

I do get emotional seeing people “yeah but” the killing of three small children seemingly because it was done by a woman. We should all be so repulsed and distraught at the state of society
Men are really emotional about this Lindsey Clancy trial.

This guy is an alcoholic sex pest loser who married Lily Allen and lasted about one year before he wanted to “open things up” and (unsurprisingly) caused the marriage to crash and burn in less than half a decade. Talked a big game about monogamy and becoming ‘dad’ to Allen’s children, before collapsing it all with lying and cheating scumbag behavior. Now he sits here trying to justify his own inability to live a well-ordered life by cloaking his own immorality and immaturity in some grand-sounding midwit language about “capitalism”. It’s a disgusting inversion of right and wrong: I’m actually a good person for destroying my family because families are evil, capitalistic institutions. Not only is it really very dumb, but it actually makes him even a worse person than I realized.
David Harbour says America’s family culture has a capitalist mindset of protecting your own and ignoring everyone else “You’re either alone and you’re kind of like a weird bachelor or spinster... or you get a family, you get a house and that’s your castle and those are your people” “It’s like, ‘F**k the rest of the world,’ or like, ‘We protect what’s ours’... there’s a very sort of capitalist mindset to this ideology” “I think there’s something about communal living in America that we all kind of long for... friendship and common ground and supporting each other and taking care of each other”

“Services” and “resources” are magical liberal words that mean “silver bullet that fixes all the problems without having to do anything I dislike”
The idea that severely mentally ill people are going to be free to live in our world if we sprinkle “services” on them is what leads to this. It puts first responders and civilians in harm’s way so we don’t have to pay for or deal with the unpleasantries of institutionalization.

The idea that your work/job needs to have some “deep meaning” for you is a very new concept. The meaning in life comes from your close relationships: spouse, children, church, community. For many (maybe most) people, and certainly almost everyone throughout history, “work” was a means to build and support a life and family, not a tool to achieve meaning in and of itself. Did subsistence farmers in early civilizations derive deep meaning from tilling their fields? Did soldiers in armies throughout history find meaning in marching across hundreds of miles or fighting in brutal battles? Did your grandfather find deep meaning toiling away in the Ford factory? Or were these ways to survive, increase socioeconomic status, build a family? Perhaps some people in history really did get a deep sense of meaning from their line of work, and that’s great for them, but they are the exception. For most it likely ended at the satisfaction of a job well done, whatever it was. The rule across history is people “doing what needs to be done”, and finding meaning in faith, family, and local community.

This is so weird to me. How can you work 8 hours a day for decades doing something you don't like or personally care about in some way? That makes no sense

Why do we need to “have empathy” for Lindsay Clancy? Why am I supposed to “empathize” with a child killer? These same people think I should have “empathy” for the psychotic homeless guy terrorizing innocent people on the street or subway. But the truth is, I don’t have empathy for them at all, only scorn and disgust. How come I am never supposed to have empathy for the police officer who shot and killed a felon in a split second decision with their life on the line? Why is that the bridge “empathy” can’t cross? I “have empathy” for Daniel penny, for Derek Chauvin, for Irina Zarutska, for the scared little kid watching some homeless lunatic rant and rave on the street. Thats who I “have empathy” for.
Woman crashes out on live TV and almost starts crying defending Lindsey Clancy

Insightful. This works in part because rallying Americans to support and protect one of the Crown Jewels of its economy (biotech/pharma) has become increasingly hard.
This is the beginning and how it will work 1. VCs initially got sole access to Chinese drugs and bought, licensed etc to shop to Pharma 2. Chinese biotechs then started to sell directly to pharmaceutical companies 3. VCs then left out in the cold start trying to find new ways to cheap Chinese discovery 4. Enter “NewCos” where these greedy VCs basically give capital to Chinese Biotechs and the Chinese biotechs get equity, milestones, and part of these new companies 5. Americans pay 20x what Chinese patients pay <—we are here 6. Pharmaceutical companies then must sweeten the pot - start offering larger and larger milestones 7. Drug discovery essentially becomes outsourced due to economic factors mainly driven by federal policy decisions and road blocks 8. China gains enormous capital 9. Chinese biotechs become essentially Pharma and decide to launch directly in the US as a subsidiary by hiring a US MGMT team and overpaying them 10. As they gain technical and managerial experience they slowly remove original Management team 11. Large Pharma but especially $BMY $AZN $PFE are affected, long time institutions suddenly find it harder to compete both because of fast follow on leading to diminished blockbusters 12. The treasonous VCs and Pharma Execs retire having been made extremely wealthy for buying cheap assets but the US loses another industry to Economic Statecraft. 13. Tens of thousands of scientists and PhDs are laid off, loss of institutional knowledge, the US becomes anemic for drug discovery and EU becomes an afterthought 14. At least one European Big Pharma merger with a Chinese Pharma 15. Americans who have long funded drug discovery for the world paying $2.83 for every dollar Europe pays, revolt against high drug prices as Populism grows 16. As technology advances Chinese companies benefit more, they also start to increase cost on Americans 17. China also subsidizes large CDMOs to control biologic manufacturing and make US CDMOs whither. The US becomes reliant due to economic factors 18. US populism grows as cost of living causes social strife for GenZ. Both far left (DSA) and far right (TBD) political factions begin to become more powerful. 19. Populism short sightedness leads to capital controls and effectively killing the last remnants of drug discovery, drug development, and National Advantage 20. Absolute China Victory and is a massive massive Security Risk I have been writing for years and working behind the scenes to try and improve US policy because this is all avoidable. Unfortunately the Pharma lobby is FOR this path due to current MGMT and boards seeing it as beneficial for the next quarter. They would rather sell us out and get rich. As Americans we must insist on policy change that allows our companies to develop drugs for cheaper and faster. We must defend American Workers and refuse to fund the stealing of American IP, capital, and knowledge. "The gifts of enemies are no gifts at all, and bring no good." — Sophocles

People who recline their economy seats on an airplane are truly the lowest of the low. Just unbelievably selfish for so little gain. It’s a great human psychological experiment.

A lot of people have an issue with this for understandable reasons: it doesn’t undo all the lives that were ruined, it doesn’t disavow anything in particular, etc But my biggest issue is that this implies there is a Woke 2 (or 3 or more) coming
JUST IN: AOC declares “Woke 1 was crazy”

This was the moment I realized it was destiny. That even if OG missed KAT would have been right there to finish it off. That everything was aligned for them to win no matter what happened.
Karl-Anthony Towns reveals how he was fully ready to flush the game-winning dunk himself before OG Anunoby came flying out of nowhere for the historic championship tip-in "I'm right next to him, I was going to dunk it... I see OG flying in the sky and I'm like, 'All right, well, if he tries to tip the ball back in and it goes off the front rim, I'm going to dunk it back in.'" "OG made it, it was something special... The play was designed to go to me, and then two people guarded me... we got the ball to JB, JB took a quick pull-up three, and OG who was inbounding the ball found himself with no one on him and crashed the board."

I simply can’t comprehend why the Celtics would be favored over the Knicks next year?
After all these free agency moves, the San Antonio Spurs are still favored to win the NBA championship this season. Adding Tobias Harris to an already elite squad has put them over the top of OKC and the Knicks, per @BetUS_NBA The Spurs are currently +260 to win it all and secure Victor Wembanyama’s first ring.
