Yesterday, we went to Government Junior Secondary School Dabo, Kano, with one mission: HealthyChild, HealthyFuture. ❤️🧼
Through @Logos_network Circle Kano and @DJFL_official we reached 100+ students and teachers with health education in English and Hausa.
📚 Shared ~50 hygiene comic books
🧴 Distributed hand sanitisers, buckets & writing materials
🍪 Shared snacks and supported the school financially
🏥 Connected the school to nearby primary healthcare resources
But what we saw reminded us that children need more than lessons.
Some came to school barefoot. Learning materials and chairs were lacking.
As a medical doctor, it hit differently.
Health isn't just about treating illness. It's also about dignity, nutrition, education and the environment in which children grow.
We couldn't fix everything in one visit, but we showed up, listened, acted and identified more ways to help including working towards providing a first-aid box.
I'm grateful to everyone who made this possible. We have more work to do, and we're committed to doing it.
One child at a time. One school at a time. One community at a time. ❤️

Still creating impact.
I’m building @VOTERAX , growing @themirrorhub , supporting founders & businesses, contributing to the Web3 ecosystem and still making time for humanitarian work as a medical doctor.
Through @Logos_network Circle Kano, we’re taking HealthyChild, HealthyFuture into schools across Kano.

In Nigeria, it’s becoming easier for young people to question whether education is still worth it.
But sometimes the problem isn’t a lack of ambition. It’s a lack of exposure to what education can lead to.
On Tuesday, Logos Circle Bauchi took a step towards changing that.
.
Yesterday we had our very first @Logos_network Circle Bauchi Meetup. The meet up brought together students and professionals from diverse fields, united by a shared desire to see our community improve.

On August 29th, we @Logos_network #logos circle wukari, took our Healthy Child, Bright Future Campaign to Success Orphanage Home in Pwadzu, Wukari our first outreach after two circle meetups in June & July. 16 of us showed up ready to serve. 🙏
We opened with prayer, then sat with the matron to understand their biggest struggles. Three stood out: a damaged borehole with no potable water, no tutor for the teens’ math & English, and severe overcrowding, 23 children sharing just 2 bedrooms.
The home also houses children from neighboring Adamawa & Benue States, which has stretched their already limited space even further. No mattresses, no separate sleeping areas for teenage boys and girls, and skin diseases spreading in the heat.
We couldn’t fix everything in one visit, but we showed up with what we could:
🍚 Food (rice, pasta, drinks)
🧼 Hygiene supplies
🦟 Treated mosquito nets
🧦 Clothing donated by our members
We also arranged two NYSC corps members to volunteer as tutors for basic math & English before school resumes, a small but real answer to one of their biggest needs.
This is just the beginning. Next up, we’re raising funds for a follow-up visit: bunk beds & mattresses, fixing (or working around) the borehole, a free medical checkup (HIV, genotype, Hepatitis B screening), and hygiene supplies for the teenage girls.
Grateful for every hand that made this possible. If you’d like to support the next phase, reach out, every bit counts. 💙
Our visit to Success Orphanage Home was a reminder that lasting change starts with showing up. The challenges we saw, from water scarcity to overcrowded sleeping spaces, are significant, but they are not beyond what a committed community can begin to address. As we plan our follow-up visit and expand our support, we hold onto the words of Franklin D. Roosevelt: “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” This is the work we intend to keep doing. – at Wukari, Nigeria

As fundraising efforts become tougher,
An old method of raising capital is coming back to light,
I wrote about it in today's newsletter,
And told the Story of how Paystack used the same strategy in their early days before raising funds from VCs
I randomly think of the fate of this stew from LOTR.
Sam has literally been carrying a full set of kitchenware all the way from the Shire. Then the one chance they get to actually cook, they don't even get to eat.
It low key pisses me off😤

Nigeria, man. There's no escaping the rot, insecurity and dysfunction, no matter how rich you get.
1. Buy an SUV because the roads are bad, and you become a prime target for kidnapping, extortion, and inflated prices
2. Live in an estate for quiet and security but the moment you drive out the gate, you're back in the same poverty, crime, chaos and insecurity everyone else suffers. Your safety exists only within the walls of your expensive prison
3. Spend millions on solar so you don't have to suffer generator noise but your neighbours still use generators. You stop hearing yours, not theirs.
4. Make money and the women will come but the women who come are poor. You work hard to escape poverty, only to give your money to women who are hoping to escape their own poverty by 'working' you
5. Buy Starlink to escape MTN and Airtel, and now the whole compound wants your password.
"But it's unlimited now?"
Decline and you're a bad neighbour
The tragedy of trying to buy your way out systemic dysfunction is that you never truly solve the underlying problem. You just spend money trying to insulate yourself from it, and in that process, create new problems for yourself.
But you interprete it as progress because you no longer have the exact same probems as the next Nigerian.
Because progress here is less about better roads, reliable power and security for all.
Progress here is more about owning an SUV while everyone else dodges potholes in their Camry, having steady power and uninterrupted airconditioning whilst everyone else sweats through the heat, and living behind the 'security' of estate gates while everyone else lives with insecurity.
It is that contrast that gives me fulfilment. It is what makes you stand out, and provides both of us something to brag about. So the benchmark is not whether the system works; It is whether I am better than others in a system that does not work.
And I say "I", because I, also find myself thinking that way sometimes.
I also want to brag about paying 8 million for rent, rather than demand afforable housing for all or protest against the fraud of agents and the greed of landlords.
Afterall, I am also a product of the system.
As a result, most of what I, and by extension, Nigerians broadly speaking, consider progress, is a maladaptation to systemic failure.
It is, to condense it, progress measured against dysfunction, rather than freedom from it.
And 'Maladaptation' because the actions we have adapted to help us cope with the dysfunction, ultimately does more harm than good.
So for example, rather than protest insecurity, bad roads or unreliable power, we maladapt by travelling by air, buying SUVs and installing solar.
We spend money to work around failing institutions while the institutions themselves continue to decay.
But the problem with our "I better pass my neighbour' cope is that it will eventually reach its limit. Because as the rot and decay deepens and spreads, even our workarounds will fail, our estates will no longer keep the criminals and the abokis that surround us out (Abuja residents beware), the kidnappers will come to our doorsteps, like they're doing in Ekpoma, and our roads will get so bad even our four-wheelers will no longer be able to handle them, leading to accidents that will land us in hospitals with no doctors and nurses because our best health workers have japa'd.
