Yesterday, an ICE agent opened fire in Marble Hill. They shot a member of our community in the neck while he was in his car. His five-year-old kid was in a child seat in the back of the car when ICE agents fired at least 7 rounds into it. This was in the middle of the afternoon, with children walking home from school and people heading home from work. Federal agents put every one of them in danger. When I was in Marble Hill last night I saw NYPD officers rapidly escalating violence. As I was trying to de-escalate, I was shoved to the ground by an officer. I witnessed unmarked law enforcement cars hitting protestors as NYPD officers pushed people out of its path. And instead of condemning ICE’s violence, Police Commissioner Tisch attempted to justify the shooting by reading off our neighbor’s past interactions with police. The NYPD spent more time protecting a militia that just shot someone than protecting New Yorkers. Last night, the NYPD and Commissioner Tisch violated the spirit, if not the letter, of our sanctuary city policies and fueled the Trump Administration’s attempt to demonize our communities. The NYPD’s Strategic Response Group must be disbanded as quickly as possible, and Commissioner Tisch must step down. In this district, there are mothers who are afraid to send their kids to school, workers who are afraid to show up for their shifts, and people who won’t call for help anymore because they can’t be sure who will come. That’s what it means to have a violent militia operating in your community. You don’t feel safe walking down your own street.  For decades, we’ve been told ICE can be fixed with more oversight, better training, or reform. But you can’t reform an agency whose purpose is to terrorize immigrant families. You can’t train cruelty out of a system built to enact cruelty. ICE must be abolished. This moment demands that everyone step up. Elected officials at every level need to stop hedging and say it plainly: Abolish ICE now. Our city must enforce every sanctuary protection we have and city officials must ensure this cannot happen again.

Five Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) chapters issue a joint statement on NYC-DSA pressuring NYC-YDSA to unendorse protests of Zohran Mamdani at City Hall on Oct 7 "On October 5, 2026, a post was shared on NYC-YDSA social media accounts endorsing a rally outside City Hall. Organized by New York City students, the protest marked three years of ongoing genocide in Gaza, and included messaging criticizing Mayor Mamdani’s failures to uphold his commitments to the Palestinian liberation movement. The flyer included the NYC-YDSA logo, as well as logos of four member chapters of NYC-YDSA: Hunter College, Lehman College, the City College of New York, and The New School. These chapters endorsed the protest independently of the citywide organization. Shortly afterwards, the NYC-DSA Steering Committee requested that the post be removed and the endorsement revoked, even though NYC-YDSA Steering had voted unanimously to sign on. Along with objecting to a protest critical of Mayor Mamdani, a chapter elected official, the NYC-DSA Steering Committee took issue with the use of an inverted red triangle and Arabic text in the post, which they described as “pro-Hamas dogwhistles.” YDSA Steering members were told explicitly that chapter leadership was considering removing funding from NYC-YDSA or stripping our organization of representation on NYC-DSA Steering as repercussions. In consideration of this, NYC-YDSA Steering voted narrowly to take the post down. We, the leaders of YDSA chapters in New York City, responded to this repression by uploading our own versions of the post, removing the logo of NYC-YDSA. In response, we received personal calls from NYC-DSA leadership asking us to take it down. We refused. It is our responsibility to show up with our partners in the Palestine movement when they are fighting for justice. We reaffirm our commitment to Palestinian liberation, and to protesting against any elected official who fails to use their power to oppose the extermination of the Palestinian people. As the youth wing of an unapologetically anti-Zionist mass socialist movement, we believe that our elected officials should be beholden to us, not the other way around. Our commitment is to Palestine, not any elected official. We welcomed Mamdani’s promise of a better city and a better world, but over the last ten months of his tenure, we have seen the Mayor continue to capitulate to the same Capitalist and Zionist forces that continue to undermine his administration’s promises. He has kept Zionist billionaire Jessica Tisch as police commissioner, despite her vocal defense of the genocide and record of enabling racist violence. He has stood by while weapons are shipped to Israel through our airports, taken no action to combat the illegal sale of stolen Palestinian land in New York City, overseen the creation of a “Strategy to Combat Anti-Semitism” that directs millions of dollars to explicitly pro-Zionist organizations, and betrayed his campaign promise to dissolve the NYPD Strategic Response Group that has brutalized so many of us and our comrades. We know that he can do better. Our struggle for liberation cannot be complete without the liberation of Palestine and an end to all colonial and imperialist oppression. We do not believe in a narrow economism wherein an “affordability agenda” justifies abandoning those who are victims of genocide and apartheid. Our experience as participants in the student intifada has taught us this lesson well. Palestine is not a burden, it is the compass of any genuine socialist and internationalist movement. If the Mayor wants to be an advocate for the working class, he must recommit to Palestine and take real action to end NYC’s complicity in genocide. Mayor Mamdani has a responsibility to do all that is in his power to divest our public funds from genocide, including public university funds. The CUNY student movement recently forced CUNY to disclose its investments after a two-year legal battle. CUNY’s records revealed over $1 million of NY taxpayer dollars and working-class students’ tuition money invested into weapons manufacturers, including Israeli weapons manufacturers, that have armed Israel with bombs and missiles during the genocide in Gaza. CUNY’s records also revealed further money invested into private prison contractors such as CoreCivic and GEO Group, which owns the notorious ICE detention facility Delaney Hall. Mayor Mamdani has the authority to appoint and replace a third of CUNY’s Board of Trustees, and he can use that authority to make divestment possible. He still has time to deliver on the promises of justice that brought him into office. No one can pressure us into forsaking our principles, and no politician will ever be above the socialist movement. We will continue to fight for a world free of oppression, occupation, and genocide."

This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed. This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities. Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery. Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children. Abolish ICE.

Sudan is widely recognized by international organizations as the largest, most severe humanitarian and displacement disaster on Earth. Out of a population of roughly 50 million, 33.7 million people require urgent humanitarian aid, ~ 65% of the country's population. More than 21 million people are facing crisis, emergency, or catastrophic levels of hunger. Millions are not able to eat every day. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has officially confirmed famine conditions in parts of North Darfur, including the massive Zamzam camp for internally displaced people. Multiple other regions across Darfur and Kordofan are on the brink of a full-blown starvation catastrophe. An estimated 825,000 children under five are expected to suffer from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). The scale of human suffering in UAE’s war on the country, now in its fourth year, according to the IRC accounts for over 10% of the entire world's global humanitarian need.

Hasan Piker is asked by Najeh, an event organizer at Cornell University, if he would be interested in interviewing Sudanese doctors on his broadcast and Hasan said yes. Najeh explained that he went on medical missions to Lebanon, Sudan, the Gaza flotilla and Ukraine, and that Sudan is not being talked about at all, despite the fact that some people have said that Sudan is in a worse state than Gaza with regard to the state of the hospital facilities. 🤍

There seems to be a lot of liberals that haven't come to terms with the fact we double tapped a girls school in Iran, kidnapped the president of Venezuela and stole their oil and gold, blockaded gas into Cuba, and are randomly blowing up fishing boats for no reason.
👀 NEW: @hasanthehun joins @alexthomp on the Season 3 premiere of The Axios Show in what Piker called "the most contentious interview" he's done. Piker claims that "pound for pound," America conducts more terror around the world than al-Qaeda.

Whether you call it New York City, Nueva Yol, or PueblaYork, Hispanic and Latino New Yorkers are at the heart of the city we love.  From the labor activism of Luisa Moreno, to the marches of the Young Lords in the South Bronx in 1969. From Juan Rodriguez, a free, mixed-race Dominican sailor who became the first non-indigenous resident of Manhattan in 1613, to Jose Alvarado, NYCHA's very own Knicks Champion. From the Nuyorican Poets Café on the Lower East Side, to Toñita's in Williamsburg, New York City would not be New York City without its Hispanic Heritage. And yet, more than three-quarters of Latino New Yorkers struggle to afford living in New York City. As we mark Hispanic Heritage Month, we remember that Hispanic and Latino families must be at the heart of our affordability agenda.

Islamophobia is much more than “anti-Muslim hate”: it is a complex, multi layered sophisticated system of discrimination and oppression embedded in global power structures. It is a deeply intersectional system that overlaps sexism, racism, imperialism, classism, casteism and extends its reach to target non Muslim individuals and groups that share any perceived characteristics (Sikhs, South Asians, etc) it operates privately, interpersonally, dialectically, institutionally. it is normalized via cultural and political attitudes, language, practices, policies and laws. It is also not a recent phenomenon birthed from 9/11. this piece in @VanityFair is disgusting, but rather than an exception is actually the norm

Hi @chrissmithnymag and @VanityFair, I cannot believe you published this racist Islamophobic drivel without any pushback. Mamdani was 9 years old on 9/11 and all Muslim Americans are not ‘stand-ins’ for 19 foreign hijackers.

Misogynists spouting bile about Lindsay Clancy’s trial don’t care about the law. they don’t care about protecting children. they don’t care about justice or safety or whatever else they’re posturing about. They care about punishing women. They use someone like Lindsay Clancy as a weapon to further attack women as a class, to stigmatize post partum disorders and maternal struggles, and to make it more difficult for mothers, and for all women, to receive the support they need.

Mark Ruffalo links Paramount to Oracle’s ties to the Israeli military “They are crushing workers and consolidating the wealth of the world for their own power and concentrated dominance.” Ruffalo criticized Larry and David Ellison while opposing Paramount’s Warner Bros. deal, arguing that Oracle’s role in Israel’s war effort should be part of the conversation around the merger. Paramount called his remarks “antisemitic” and “a bridge too far.”
