This one wasn’t too great. FSD got stuck behind these cars. What I don’t understand is why it couldn’t recognize the context of the situation: hazard lights, person getting inside car, etc.
What perplexed me even more is that it waited for so long without trying anything new when it could clearly see the traffic lights cycling through green yellow red multiple times and cars passing me from behind.

🚨 The SpaceX–Tesla merger speculation is getting harder to ignore!
@thejefflutz points to Elon’s latest comments about why the two companies are still separate despite already sharing deep collaboration and some management overlap.
And the synergies are huge:
SpaceX → launch + Starlink
Tesla → EVs + FSD
Optimus → potentially the bridge between both
Jeff argues the real question may be timing, not strategic fit.
He also notes SpaceX’s stock has stayed within roughly a 5% range over the last 30 days, something he sees as potentially important if a deal is being prepared.

GOOD NEWS 🇨🇭 Swiss heavy transport and logistics firm Käppeli Logistik AG has officially placed Europe’s first confirmed order for the Tesla Semi, sealing the deal for one truck right at Tesla’s booth during the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany 🔥
The purchase delivers on a seven-year commitment that started in 2019, when managing director Mike Ritter visited Tesla’s Fremont factory to put down an early reservation.
Slated for delivery in 2027, the all-electric Class 8 truck will join Käppeli’s regular commercial freight fleet.
While Tesla Semi deployments have largely stayed limited to pilot runs across North America, this formal order points to real European fleet demand locking in ahead of volume manufacturing at Gigafactory Nevada.
Years ago, Bill Gates argued that heavy-duty electric @tesla_semi would "probably never" work. His reasoning was simple: batteries are just too heavy. To get more range, you need a bigger battery, which adds dead weight, demanding an even bigger battery in an endless loop 😱
The raw physics seemed to back him up: it takes roughly 40 kg of modern lithium-ion cells to match the energy stored in 1 kg of diesel. Bolt a massive pack onto a standard truck chassis, and you eat up so much payload capacity that you're left hauling little more than helium balloons 😱
Top Gear’s look inside the Nevada Gigafactory reveals the exact architectural shift that broke Gates’s loop: instead of hauling battery weight on top of a heavy truck frame, Tesla merged the two so the battery is the frame 🆒
Instead of bolting a standalone pack onto a traditional steel ladder chassis, the battery enclosure itself acts as a load-bearing structural member. Through an automated marriage process on the line, the pack and chassis lock together into a single rigid unit. That tight coupling eliminates redundant structural steel, shortens the wheelbase, and gives the rig a remarkably tight turning radius—wiping out hundreds of pounds of dead mass before the truck ever takes on cargo.
Then there is the geometry of the pack itself—which looks nothing like an EV skateboard floor.
Tesla stacked its chunky 4680 cells into a compact cube positioned directly behind the driver, threaded with an integrated cooling belt. Moving to a cube drastically slashes the pack’s surface-area-to-volume ratio. That means it holds onto heat dramatically better in sub-zero winter weather, cutting the parasitic energy normally wasted warming up cold cells. Thanks to that thermal advantage and low overall consumption, the 548 kWh Standard Range pack is actually smaller than the packs inside competing European electric rigs, yet hits equal or superior range.
It also makes high-volume manufacturing remarkably plug-and-play.
The 325-mile Standard Range model uses two battery enclosures side by side. To build the 500-mile Long Range truck, workers simply drop an identical third pack into the middle slot—jumping capacity to roughly 822 kWh without altering the chassis geometry or line tooling.
Crucially, those range targets weren't random: they were reverse-engineered to match the maximum legal driving stints truckers can log before mandatory rest breaks in Europe and the US. Paired with high-power charging that adds a 60% charge in 30 minutes, charging happens entirely during mandated driver downtime rather than stealing productive road hours.
Combining that low consumption with zero wasted downtime is what makes the commercial math pencil out. Consuming around 1.7 kWh per mile, the Semi runs at roughly $0.34 per mile on typical commercial power ($0.20/kWh) compared to $1.00 per mile for a 7 mpg diesel rig on $7/gallon fuel. Over 100,000 miles a year, that nets $65,000 in fuel savings alone, paying down the truck's premium in under five years.
Gates was completely right about the physics of traditional trucks. He just assumed Tesla would build one like everybody else.

One goal we set was to be able to change the HEPA filter in under 2 mins with no tools - mission accomplished.
Tool free access meant using molded in plastic clips to retain the filter, which is a monster of a filter. Some people were struggling with breaking the clips when trying to remove the filter, so we made them more robust

The Cybertruck body is a mix of aluminum and steel, the latter needs protection from the elements. So we send the body through an electrocoating bath, which deposits a protective layer a few microns thick. The original coating developed was a wonderful shade of green, which turned brown if it was baked a little too long...
We developed a black E-coat which overall improved any gap read through by adding shadow, plus it makes the bodies going down the line look a lot more like their inspiration, the F117A
