I was adopted and sometimes in the middle of just like, eating my little gluten free penne pasta and dropping tiny prayer hand emojis in slack, I think… who on EARTH is my mom and what the HECK is she doing right now

Two Columbia juniors published an op-ed arguing Jane Doe’s sexual encounter may have been consensual... and were told by classmates to “kill themselves.” The op-ed, “The ‘Cornell 7’ Is Really About Liberalism,” argued the prevailing narrative on campus — that Jane Doe was brutally gangraped — actually infantilizes women. In response, fellow staffers at the paper, the Columbia Sundial, called for it to shut down. A ‘free speech club’ canceled an event with the paper’s editor-in-chief. Obviously, despite the Trump administration’s supposed crackdown on leftist censorship in the Ivy League, free speech has not returned to college campuses. @JonasYDu has the firsthand account from the authors, @Nikos_Mohammadi and @Christina_ma4 👇

Only in America can you find a chemical company that made lightbulbs, TVs, optical fiber, and touchscreens possible because it's been run for generations by Katharine Hepburn's family of old boy New England aristocrats, and of course it's now crucial for scaling up data centers.
It made Edison’s first light bulbs, invented optical fiber and iPhone glass, and now mass-produces parts for AI chips and data centers. Corning shows how U.S. firms can advance science and buck deindustrialization to beat China. Read the new @bismarckanlys Brief (link below):

I read a long piece about the Sabatini case in the Boston Globe from 2023, & it was fairly clear that it was complete BS. Some of the "bro culture" complaints were re profanity at work - seriously? why are we recycling Victorian notions of dainty women? apps.bostonglobe.com/metro/i…
Former MIT scientist David Sabatini just won $6 million in a landmark case against false allegations of r*pe and sexual assault, which destroyed his career. Once on track to win the Nobel Prize, Sabatini’s ex-girlfriend accused him of r*pe in 2020 and began calling him the ‘Weinstein of science.’ He was later accused of perpetuating a “bro culture” in his lab. As a result, he was stripped of all his funding, lost his job, and went bankrupt. We interviewed Sabatini (@DMSabatini) about the verdict, which he says made him “proud to be an American.” @neerajadeshp reports 👇

I thought I knew every horrible thing about this story, but it was not until I read @neerajadeshp's interview with Sabatini that I realized how total his unpersoning was

david sabatini is one of the brightest scientists in america. years after a fake rape accusation shattered his life and career, he sued his accuser and won. he discussed the details of this shocking story with @neerajadeshp for pirate wires:

one especially shocking detail from the sabatini case, the institution that fired him after a woman falsely accused him of rape is still today employing his accuser

"Why would someone lie?" Well, it's really this simple sometimes:
As I exited my video call with @DMSabatini, whom I interviewed for @PirateWires via @IWF, all I could think was: here is a scientist who has made some of the biggest breakthroughs of our age—a man who is exceptional, definitionally abnormal in the best sense of the word; here he is, begging for “normal.” The people who put him in such a position—including Kristin Knouse, his ex who was found by a jury to have defamed him by falsely calling him a “rapist”—remain employed by the Whitehead Institute. Full piece in the replies.

One of the things that got me about the @DMSabatini story was the allegation that his lab promoted “bro culture.” Not only is being a bro not a crime (no matter what some might have you think) but labs, especially ones that operate at such a high level, rely on people being motivated, being inspired, and yes, having fun. I loved Sabatini’s response to my question in my interview with him for @PirateWires, on how American science has become corporate and sterile:

BlueChip. Built in America. America made the first electronic computer to win a war. Now we depend on our greatest adversaries to build the computers that run our economy and defend our nation. Today, we bring it home.

Today, @anduriltech and @qualcomm announced a new laptop that will eventually be 100% made in America, a “first step” toward creating a market for U.S.-manufactured components and total technological self-sufficiency. Building computers in America should be a matter of “national pride,” says @PalmerLuckey. @JonasYDu reports 👇

America invented the computer. Then it offshored the ability to build one. @PalmerLuckey thinks it's a matter of 'national pride' to fix that, with @anduriltech announcing a line of US-made computers with @Qualcomm today. The goal: every material, component, and process being domestic — a broader vision that we can and should develop total self-sufficiency for important technology. I wrote about why that matters in @PirateWires: piratewires.com/p/why-anduri…

Nice, had wanted to do this at some point but it seemed pretty daunting. Happy Nic took it on.
How loud are America’s largest data centers? Despite this being an intensely political issue with a simple empirical answer, no one has systematically studied the problem… until now. @nic_carter, along with his AI agents, mapped noise from the 25 most massive hyperscalers in America. For 17 of them, no credible complaints of noise were found. In addition, no data center in the study over 800 meters from the nearest population cluster received any meaningful complaints, suggesting that, while the noise problem is real, it’s also very solvable. Here, the first ever comprehensive, systematic study of data center noise... and how to fix it 👇

For months, everyone has been talking about Peter Thiel’s secretive Antichrist lectures in Nashville. @gb_rango attended all four off-the-record lectures, held inside the historic Grand Lodge of Tennessee Free and Accepted Masons. Now, with Thiel’s blessing: a comprehensive, firsthand reconstruction of his sprawling theory of the end times, from AI doomers and one-world government to the fate of America. piratewires.com/p/inside-pet…
