What connects human, animal and environmental health? The answer is simple: the health of one affects the health of all. On #OneHealthDay, we are reminded that challenges such as zoonotic diseases, climate change and biodiversity loss cannot be addressed in isolation. They affect people, animals and the environment alike. At @HeiferInternational, we integrate the One Health approach into our programmes across Asia, working with smallholder farmers to improve animal health, prevent disease outbreaks and adopt safe, sustainable and regenerative farming practices. Because healthier farms, healthier animals and healthier ecosystems are all essential to building resilient food systems. #OneHealthDay In rural Bangladesh, Shahanara Begum vaccinates livestock and teaches other farmers safe animal care, helping prevent zoonotic disease outbreaks. Heifer International trained her as a Community Agro-Vet Entrepreneur (CAVE). 🐄 In Chowgacha, Jashore, 20 women farmers received their first soil test reports, which guide their nutrient and fertiliser decisions. 🌱

This #WorldFoodDay, we are looking at how innovation can help smallholder farmers produce food, protect their livelihood, and build a more resilient food system. Through a first of its kind pilot in Odisha, Heifer International in India, with support from the Weather Risk Management Services, used parametric insurance to provide a safety net for women backyard poultry farmers against climate risks. When predefined weather thresholds are crossed, the payouts are automatically triggered, helping faster support without lengthy claim processes.
