All the children have already been evacuated from the border area in Sumy region to safer parts of Ukraine — about 8,000 kids from 213 villages and small towns. But 34,000 people are still there. Two or three years ago the Sumy border wasn’t a combat zone at all. Now Russian forces occupy a small piece of it and heavily shell the villages and even the city of Sumy itself. It’s tragic. The only thing Ukraine can really offer is evacuation — nothing else. The longer this war goes on, the more ground Russia will take. You can talk about any military illusions you want, but the reality is clear: Ukraine is getting smaller on the map, and so is the number of Ukrainians.
SUMY is not getting well at all.

The IAEA has been informed that an employee of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) was killed by a drone attack today. The victim was reportedly a welder at the plant’s centralized repair workshop.
DG @rafaelmgrossi says any attack on nuclear plant staff is completely unacceptable and violates the Seven Indispensable Pillars for Nuclear Safety and Security during an armed conflict.
DG Grossi calls again for maximum military restraint to help prevent the risk of a nuclear accident during the conflict.

🚨 Melania Trump @FLOTUS , where are your humanitarian guarantees? Is the rescue of Ukrainians becoming yet another Russian propaganda spectacle?
On October 29, Ukraine’s Centre for Strategic Communications reported indications that civilians were being transferred from Russian-occupied Oleshky to Russia without the international oversight previously agreed upon.
Ukraine’s Ombudsman has not yet confirmed these reports. However, the allegations themselves demand an immediate, independent investigation.
Who guarantees that civilians can freely choose where they are evacuated?
Where are the independent international observers?
Do Ukrainian civilians have an unrestricted opportunity to return to Ukrainian-controlled territory?
And why is Russia’s state news agency TASS distributing footage of this operation while questions about independent oversight remain unanswered?
We have already witnessed the consequences of Russian occupation in Mariupol, Bucha, Izium, and Kupiansk.
The world must remember the documented crimes against Ukrainian civilians, forced displacement, and violations of international humanitarian law.
Oleshky must not become another such case.
On October 23, the White House presented Melania Trump as a mediator of a humanitarian agreement.
But humanitarian diplomacy is not about press releases, carefully staged photographs, or political credit.
It is about people’s safety, their voluntary consent, independent monitoring, and their right to return home.
Melania and Donald Trump, Ukrainian civilians are not tools for building your political reputations.
If agreements have been violated, those violations must be documented, investigated, and those responsible identified.
If civilians are forcibly transferred or deported, those responsible must be held accountable under international law.
We demand full transparency regarding this humanitarian operation, independent monitoring, and public explanations from the United States concerning the security guarantees provided to Ukrainian citizens.
Russia has no right to turn the suffering of people trapped under its occupation into evidence of its own supposed “humanity.”
And no international mediator should allow humanitarian operations to be used to conceal potential human rights violations.
Ukrainian civilians have the right to freedom, safety, and to return home.
Not to become part of another propaganda spectacle.

My wife's Aunt an Oleshky native, left it a bit more than a year ago.
Even back then, it was extremely confusing, they were all forced to accept russian passports if they wanted financial or humanitarian aid assistance, without getting into the details of russian atrocities, her way to a Ukraine controlled portion of Ukraine was dangerous and she went through multiple filtration checkpoints where their phones were checked for suspicious communications. The road was very long and was via Crimea as well to one of the Baltic states and back to Ukraine.
I can't imagine the state of the people who are left there right now and what will they have to go through to get back to normal lives.
