Six days after Hurricane Katrina, a family walked across a bridge in New Orleans looking for food and medicine. Police drove up in a rented truck and opened fire without warning. A seventeen-year-old was killed. A forty-year-old man with intellectual disabilities was shot in the back as he ran. The Danziger Bridge. September 2005. James Brissette was seventeen. Ronald Madison was forty and had the mental capacity of a child; he was with his brother Lance. Nobody on that bridge was armed. Nobody had done anything. Then came the part that turned it from a shooting into a conspiracy: officers invented witnesses. They planted a gun. They wrote a report describing a gun battle that never happened. They held meetings to get their stories straight. It went on for years. Federal prosecutors eventually broke it open. Five officers were convicted in 2011. A city was drowning. A family walked across a bridge to find food. And the cover-up lasted longer than the storm, the trial and the appeal combined. This is why we preserve the histories where lives were taken, truth was buried, and accountability came far too late. savvypurchase.samcart.com/pr…

🇨🇦 LEST WE FORGET 🇨🇦 OCTOBER 2, 1944 — THE BATTLE OF THE SCHELDT On this day in 1944, Canadian soldiers began one of the most difficult and costly campaigns of the Second World War. The Allies had captured the great Belgian port of Antwerp a month earlier — but there was a problem. German forces still controlled the Scheldt estuary, the long waterway connecting Antwerp to the North Sea. Until the Scheldt was cleared, the enormous port was virtually useless to the advancing Allied armies. On October 2, the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division began pushing north from Antwerp toward South Beveland, while Canadian forces prepared to fight their way through a landscape seemingly designed to favour the defenders. Much of the country was flat and flooded. Soldiers advanced across exposed ground through mud and water, under fire from well-entrenched German positions. Mines, booby traps, driving rain and flooded fields made every kilometre costly. The battle would rage for more than five weeks through the Breskens Pocket, South Beveland and Walcheren Island. When organized German resistance finally ended on November 8, the First Canadian Army had taken more than 41,000 prisoners and opened the approaches to Antwerp. The victory came at a terrible price. The First Canadian Army suffered 12,873 killed, wounded or missing — including 6,367 Canadians. On November 28, the first Allied convoy finally sailed into Antwerp, opening the supply route that would help carry the Allied armies through the final months of the war in Europe. Today, we remember the Canadians who fought through the mud, water and gunfire of the Scheldt. Lest we forget. 🇨🇦 📸 Canadian troops during the Battle of the Scheldt, 1944. #LestWeForget #CanadianHistory #WWII

🟥 That quote, famously linked to Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto regarding the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, can so too be applied in reference to CANADA today: “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve”. 🍁 The bold strategy to protect our country has been made clear: ◾️ We are going to build a STRONG, diversified economy that nobody can mess with or threaten. ever again. ◾️ We are going to build new trade relationships with credible and dependable partners, and make Canada the trusted hub of global trade. ◾️ We are going to build an independent and sovereign nation where the freedom, security and way of life of Canadian families can never be threatened again. This is what the Liberal Government is working hard towards... The accepted mission. Canada will do this responsibly. But we will leverage EVERY economic advantage that we hold, to secure a prosperous future for our people. We are a nation at war with demented forces that wish to annihilate our economy and jobs, so that they can annex us. That will never happen.

My aunt told the ER triage nurse she had jaw pain, left arm numbness, and sweating, and got sent to the waiting room for two hours. She drove herself in at 7 PM. Told the triage nurse every symptom: chest pressure, jaw pain, sweating, left arm numb. Has been going on forty minutes. Nurse asks if she's having trouble breathing. My aunt says not exactly, just pressure. Nurse marks her as "moderate priority" and sends her to the waiting room. Two hours pass. My aunt's symptoms aren't going away. She goes back to the window. Different nurse this time. My aunt lists her symptoms again. This nurse stops typing. "How long have you had arm numbness and jaw pain together?" "About three hours now." Nurse stands up immediately. "Why are you in the waiting room?" "They sent me here." Nurse comes around the desk, takes my aunt's arm, walks her directly back. Doesn't wait for paperwork. Calls for a cardiac workup. EKG, troponin, the works. Forty minutes later: heart attack. Minor, but real. Caught with enough time to treat it properly. The original triage nurse had marked her as "possible anxiety, chest discomfort." Didn't list the jaw pain or arm numbness. My aunt spent four days in the cardiac unit. Cardiologist told her if she'd waited another few hours, it would've been a different conversation. She filed a detailed complaint. The triage nurse got retraining. That's all. My aunt now carries a card with cardiac symptoms listed that she'll hand to any triage nurse going forward. Jaw pain plus left arm numbness is a five-alarm fire. Every triage nurse should know that.

UCP members can't decide what they are, but the separatist faction of the party is working to choose for them. Conservative Albertans (not libertarian populists) have a choice - do they keep supporting this UCP circus in hopes it will change, or vote for a stable gov't? #ableg

This week, the same day Jane Doe's case was reopened, Trump's Education Department reinstated old Title IX rules, that make it harder for schools to hold students responsible for sexual assault. So the rapist in the Oval Office is shielding rapists on college campuses.
