The government makes sure that nothing of beauty or freedom touches the ordinary citizen in the Maldives. Trees are killed, the ground is denied. Movement is restricted. Housing is cooped. People are coerced/forced to move to a congested city. Med treatment curtailed.. etc. feels

We are deeply concerned about reports of ‼️ unidentified individuals‼️ attempting to cut down a mature PROTECTED TREE in Villimale today. @WAMCOmv has been responsible for such tree felling activities in the past. Are random individuals able to cut down our trees? @MaleCitymv

Terrifying rumors are swirling about Israel pressuring Trump to launch a nuclear strike on Iran immediately after the midterms or some other major escalation. I wish I was sure that this was too unhinged to take seriously, but we do not live in sane times where these kinds of dismissals are possible. Instead, we live amidst the rise of end times fascism, where dangerous accelerationists hold enormous sway in both the Israeli and U.S. governments. The hardcore religious end timers have partnered with criminals like Trump, Netanyahu, and several tech oligarchs whose only path to avoiding legal accountability for their many crimes is dramatic (and distracting) escalation. I desperately hope the rumors are exaggerated, but we need to be ready in case they are not. That's why we are releasing this video today on the eve of the U.S. midterms. We can defeat these maniacs, but only if we know what we are up against. youtube.com/watch?v=obZN_n53…

This record El NiΓ±o will probably continue to intensify for around two more months. Ocean temperatures are now nearly 93Β°F (33.7Β°C) beneath the surface in the eastern Pacific, with anomalies as large as 19.8Β°F (11.0Β°C) β€” several degrees more anomalous than 1997 was at this time.

Florida: Up to 500 mm of rain has now fallen in parts of Palm Bay and Grant-Valkaria, according to WESH. Homes are flooding, thousands have lost power and Melbourne has told residents to stay indoors. A flash flood emergency is in effect.

‼️ 1000 Year Rain Event Exceeded by almost 2X in Palm Beach Florida! For at least the 3rd time in 3 days the US has had a 1000 year rainfall event, based on our historical climate. 17 inches in 6 hours in Palm Beach Gardens. Beats the criteria of 9” by 1.8X! Staggering. Unfortunately this storm may have very well been related to the jet accident. I saw this rain intensity once before in Palm Beach County more than a decade ago when Delray/ Boynton had 24” in about 6 hours. Closed I-95. A 1000 year event means the historic statistical chance is 1-in-1000 each year or .1% - it does not mean it happens only one per 1000 years and now-a-days because of our warmer climate and this year because of Super El NiΓ±o it’s a lot more possible because there’s now more moisture in the atmosphere. With #ElNino expect the unexpected!!

‼️ Flash Flood Emergency Continues In all my year’s as a Meteorologist, I’ve NEVER seen anything like this. Multiple cities have seen 12-24” of rain, without a Tropical Storm, and it just won’t stop. ~2 feet in Palm Bay & Melbourne. As I write this torrential bands are setting up again in Central and East #Florida dumping more #flooding rain. We’ve seen many 1-in-1000 year events in the last 2 days. Entire neighborhoods are experiencing catastrophic floods! This is due to the Super #ElNino on top of a warmed atmosphere. With an El NiΓ±o this intense - by far the strongest we have ever seen - Expect the unexpected.

Anecdotal insights into the scope of Thilafushi wastage of building & construction materials suggest there's enough stuff to build a 10 storey building on Thilafushi reef slope/lagoon. These are things no one will study because 'out of sight, out of mind' is @governmentmv policy.

"non-transparent policies" "broken promises made to the people" When has @MDPSecretariat not done all of the above when in office? In fact, history tells us that NO @governmentmv keeps promises or prioritises public good or interests. What afflicts politicans? @abdulla_shahid
Experience in the Maldives has shown us clearly that dragging friendly countries and our old development partners into our domestic political matters is not in the national interest. Our relations with them must be kept above partisan politics. As opposition, our fight should be with the government. What we oppose are the current government's non-transparent policies, its underhand and shady dealings, and policies which harm national interest. We oppose the corruption in the government, frequent U-turns in policies and broken promises made to the people. We will continue to hold the government accountable on these issues, in the interest of the nation, without compromising our long-standing friendships with other countries.
