Alabama's new openly gay sheriff, Brett Jones, is making history after becoming the first openly gay man elected sheriff in the state. Brett is married to Jason White, a former police officer. Jason once tried to run for sheriff in Alabama too, but the local Republican committee rejected his attempt to run as a Republican because he is gay and married to a man. Now, years later, his own husband has won the election. They also have a son named Ethan, whom they welcomed through surrogacy. Imagine watching your husband make history in the same state where you were once rejected because of your marriage.
