Aramco CEO: Tanker attacks removed 15% of effective capacity. What does it mean to the global economy and all the related supply chains? From oil through to fertilizer.

I'll follow the lead of Florida's outgoing Governor, @RonDeSantis, and be blunt about the results of the midterm. Sorry battleship fellas, but it ain't going to happen. We still need the capabilities BBGN was going to bring in a modern ship. In FEB I gave you a "Plan B". We might want to take it off the shelf. cdrsalamander.substack.com/p…

I’m speaking at a shipping industry conference today and the hosts asked my team for confirmation that I won’t criticize their sponsors. A Flexport marketing team member accidentally responded “Ryan will definitely criticize the other sponsors” 🍿🍿🍿

Ethanol E-85 Vehicle Models Offered (History) Fun fact - the industry is offering as many E85 Flex Fuel vehicles in 2025 as they were in 1998 Lot to unpack here considering there was no renewable fuels standard in 1998

While all the attention is on oil coming out of Hormuz, let's not forget that it also produces other vital goods for the world.
LNG shipments exiting the Strait of Hormuz have reached the highest level since the war began … but still remain far below pre-war levels. Unlike oil, LNG flows through Hormuz have been slow to ramp up

there are now 300+ VLCCs on order on a current fleet of some 930... that would require a significant expansion of crude oil trade in the next 3 years to support such an orderbook...

Great points.
Replying to @iamBrianBJ
Just to be clear, the US had LOTS of basing in Greenland for many years. That only got reduced because of the US decision to employ technology (think satellites, etc…) vs expensive basing. Greenland and Denmark were ALWAYS open to re-expanding US presence there. All we had to do was ask instead of engaging in needless bombast. I’ve got no issue with refreshing/updating a 75 year old agreement even though it changed very little. And I’ve got no issue adding the two facilities you’ve highlighted in your post. I do have issues how the whole affair got done.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko says Belarus cannot supply potash to the United States under Donald Trump's proposed "deal" with Belarus. Lukashenko said today, "Even if we wanted to supply somewhere else, Western markets, we just don't have those volumes, everything has been contracted." Donald Trump announced on Truth Social earlier that he was working on a "massive Deal with respect to the purchase of Potash from Belarus. The pricing would be for substantially less than we are currently paying to Canada." It appears that Lukashenko just counter-signalled Trump's announcement.

Activist: "Farmers pump their cows full of antibiotics. It's in every glass of milk." Dairy farmer: "Do you know what happens if it is?" Activist: "People drink it." Dairy farmer: "The tanker gets tested at the gate. One cow's worth of antibiotic in 20,000 litres and the whole load goes down the drain. Every farm on the run that morning gets their milk tipped, and the farm that did it pays for all of it." Activist: "So you're saying it never happens." Dairy farmer: "I'm saying a treated cow on this farm gets red tape round her leg, goes to the back of the parlour, and her milk goes in a bucket for 6 days. I treat her like she's radioactive, because financially she is." Activist: "You still use them." Dairy farmer: "On a cow that's ill. Same as you. The vet writes it up, the date goes on the wall, and the wall's checked. Use on this farm is about half what it was 10 years ago, and that's every dairy I know." Activist: "Routine use in feed, then." Dairy farmer: "Illegal for years. Growth promoters went 20 years ago. You're describing a chicken shed in a country I don't farm in." Activist: "You can't prove it's not in the milk." Dairy farmer: "I can prove it 3 times a week, because they test it 3 times a week and send me the sheet. When did you last get a sheet on your oat drink?" Activist: "That's different." Dairy farmer: "It is. Nobody tests it. Mine's the most inspected liquid in your kitchen and it's the one you're scared of."

I predicted they’d call off Congress until the election to stop our new Epstein bill. Johnson said on TV that was “stupid” and “nonsensical.” But then he got a call from “upstairs” and canceled Congress from the middle of September until the election.

US Navy Aircraft Carrier Fleet Status as of today. Stennis is wrapping up it's refueling and complex overhaul while Truman entered behind. Ford began its post deployment maintenance that will also address damage done to the ship from the laundry room fire.

If someone thinks things are tough on an Aircraft Carrier, think of those sailors on the destroyers and support vessels.
First, soldiers? Second, if sailors want to jump off a ship, there is nothing to stop them. Finally, logisitcs at sea are tough, but the @USNavy and @MSCSealift have been doing this for a long time.

🧊🛢️ Russia just pushed an oil convoy beyond 81.5°N, potentially the northernmost route ever taken by ordinary tankers. At least 8 tankers carrying nearly 1M tonnes of oil are heading to China, forced almost 1,000 km north around heavy ice. Some reportedly lack proper ice class. themerchantsnews.substack.co…

This is a big issue!
It looks like China has cut two of our sixteen undersea cables. If one had been severed you might call it an accident, but two? It reminds you why it’s insane to be pivoting away from the energy independence coal is providing us Watch Labor tell us there’s nothing to see here. Bombs could be raining down and they’d be busy talking about climate change "We've seen numerous incidents in Europe and around Taiwan over the last, say, three or four years of cables being cut," he said. "It's difficult to be absolutely certain of the reasons in some of these cases, but in a great number of cases, it's fairly obvious that they were done by state actors, Russia and China."
