12 SO-101 robot arms for my robotics class 🤖 Last year, students built their SO-101s from scratch. This year, with help from our TA @ZQ_fantastic, we handed out 12 pre-built arms so they can jump straight into arm calibration! More time for robots!

Gemini Nano Banana Pro can solve exam questions *in* the exam page image. With doodles, diagrams, all that. ChatGPT thinks these solutions are all correct except Se_2P_2 should be "diselenium diphosphide" and a spelling mistake (should be "thiocyanic acid" not "thoicyanic") :O

Self-Improving Embodied FMs • 2-stage recipe: SFT + online RL w/ self-predicted rewards • Boosts sample efficiency: 10% robot time → 45%→75% success (vs. 8× data → only 60%) • Unlocks autonomous skill acquisition beyond imitation data

I’m beyond thrilled to share that our work on using deep learning to compute excited states of molecules is out today in @ScienceMagazine! This is the first time that deep learning has accurately solved some of the hardest problems in quantum physics. science.org/doi/abs/10.1126/…

Frontier Language Models are not Robust to Adversarial Arithmetic, or "What do I need to say so you agree 2+2=5? paper page: huggingface.co/papers/2311.0… introduce and study the problem of adversarial arithmetic, which provides a simple yet challenging testbed for language model alignment. This problem is comprised of arithmetic questions posed in natural language, with an arbitrary adversarial string inserted before the question is complete. Even in the simple setting of 1-digit addition problems, it is easy to find adversarial prompts that make all tested models (including PaLM2, GPT4, Claude2) misbehave, and even to steer models to a particular wrong answer. We additionally provide a simple algorithm for finding successful attacks by querying those same models, which we name "prompt inversion rejection sampling" (PIRS). We finally show that models can be partially hardened against these attacks via reinforcement learning and via agentic constitutional loops. However, we were not able to make a language model fully robust against adversarial arithmetic attacks.

New piece from @jennywxiao, @jjding99 and me pushing back on the claim that we can't regulate AI because that would just let China pull ahead. This is not a good argument! 4 reasons why, though first a caveat: 🧵
“Even if it were true that new AI regulations would slow innovation in the United States—and it very well may not be—China does not appear poised to surge ahead.” trib.al/txcFcJu

VPT works well even for target domains where you have very little labeled data (videos with actions) because IDMs generalize well!! We hoped this would be true, and now we know. Great work by @IMordatch @pabbeel & Doina Precup led by David Venuto on "ALPT" arxiv.org/abs/2211.13337
