You're confusing the election call with the actual election date. It's Election Day that matters for the pensions, not the writ drop. Calling it a day earlier wouldn't have changed the Oct 24 vote, as it has to be on a Saturday per BC law.

RIP Sir Patrick Stewart, 86.
Wonderful actor, an amusing and intelligent character, and a Yorkshireman to his bootstraps. Persuaded me to switch from PG Tips tea to Yorkshire Gold, for which I will be forever grateful. ‘Strong and flavourful,’ he told me over breakfast. Like the man himself.

NEW: Niki Sharma tells reporters there was tears at yesterday’s outgoing NDP caucus meeting. Says David Eby apologized to caucus. She’s not sure whether an interim leader will be appointed today at the new caucus members meeting. #bcpoli

Jfc, politics isn't therapy, we're never going to interrogate our trauma or whatever. You get in and you do as much as you can before subsapient swing voters get bored of you.
Real talk - I worry that winning will paper over our party’s bigger problems and slow us down from doing deeper interrogating and work necessary to build long-term sustainable power, let alone what we need in order to win in 2028. amandalitman.substack.com/p/…
After a decade of ever-increasing crazy (base-pandering, niche issues, attention grabbing, outrage hunting) from politicians, maybe normie really is what the public wants.
Now whether Doerksen's government actually acts that way, I don't know. Not sure anyone does for now.
Our “Exit Poll” in British Columbia: Only 31% of #bcpoli voters say they would have cast a ballot for the BC Conservatives under John Rustad and just 25% say they would have done the same had Kerry-Lynne Findlay remained as leader.

Congratulations to Lorne Doerksen on his election as Premier of British Columbia.
I look forward to working together to continue strengthening the relationship between our provinces and building a strong, united Canada.
I would also like to thank David Eby for his leadership, friendship, and partnership over the years.

Not to forget Walter Weir (though many have), the Manitoba premier who decided calling a snap election while the opposition NDP was leaderless was a “can’t-lose” proposition. And lost. digitalcollections.lib.umani…
Big congratulations to @Margare7a on winning her seat tonight. Not just an advocate for resource industries, but someone who gets that for many workers and communities, it's how they lift themselves up.
Damning. NDP could still win Port Coquitlam, which they did reliably until just now. The only interior lead? Kootenay-Monashee, home to a long line of genuine blue-collar social democrats.
If the BC NDP get blanked east of Burnaby Mountain and south of the Fraser, that's a hell of a message from the public about the party's bias and blind spots. #bcpoli

Striking a classic Prairie New Democrat pose (see under: Gary Doer.)
I asked @nenshi how he can champion pipelines when federal NDP Leader @avilewis is against new ones.
Nenshi: "I don't want to be unkind, but the federal NDP is really not relevant in Alberta. Nobody talks about them, nobody worries about them."

Beyond the silliest caricature of a crusading woke SJW posing as a journalist, is what Duncan Kinney just admitted to doing.

Two things caught my eye in @jonnywakefield’s excellent report:
“The trial was delayed for years while Kinney pursued pre-trial applications, including one that argued he was targeted as a critic of then-police chief Dale McFee, now Alberta’s top public servant.”
He not only committed the crime, he also smeared the Police Chief along the way.
Second, “Kinney was initially scheduled to face a jury trial, but defence counsel @TomEngel dropped the jury last week.”
This suggests to me that Kinney had his “Come to Jesus” moment late in the day.
I wonder if an absolute or conditional discharge will be sought. I have learned that the best indicator of remorse is an admission and apology at the earliest opportunity. This history is the opposite of that.
Why is genuine remorse important? Arbitration jurisprudence states that without genuine remorse, there is little likelihood of reflection and the rehabilitation potential is poor.
Lastly, I am grateful for local journalists like Mr. Wakefield. The court beat is a hard one, but it’s important for the community. Support good local journalism and subscribe. It’s not expensive, and it’s important.

➡️ Rode his bike to a statue;
➡️ He defaced it;
➡️ He then returned after sunrise to take photos of the vandalism;
➡️ He emailed the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex, asking for comment and their opinion on whether Shukhevych was a Nazi; and
➡️ He then filed a story for @ProgressAlberta in which said he didn’t know who was responsible.
