As the 2027 Manipur Assembly election approaches, Oja @Bimol_Akoijam’s message to the people is clear: Stop settling for election freebies. Start demanding accountability, structural reforms and a political vision for Manipur’s future. He has urged the people to look beyond cash inducements and hollow development promises and take the first and foremost step: 1. Reject Monetary Inducements for Votes Manipur’s history, identity and political future are too precious to be traded for short-term financial gains. Our votes must be instruments of accountability, not commodities in an election market. A few thousand rupees cannot compensate for years of instability, insecurity and systemic failure. 2. Demand that political parties explicitly include the following priorities in their election manifestos. 📌Defend Manipur’s Constitutional Autonomy Political parties must explain how they intend to exercise and protect the state’s constitutional powers and defend local interests, rather than blindly following the Centre’s dictates at the expense of the people of Manipur. 📌Demand Concrete Action on the NRC and Demographic Concerns The NRC and population-related concerns must go beyond election slogans and Assembly resolutions. Manifestos must outline actionable measures, clear timelines and accountability, including making the Manipur State Population Commission functional, establishing the necessary legal and administrative mechanisms, and preparing verifiable village directories and reliable demographic records. 📌Invest in Permanent Sports Infrastructure Manipur’s reputation for producing exceptional sportspersons must be matched by modern, permanent facilities, quality training infrastructure and substantial budgetary investment to nurture future generations of athletes. 📌Revive Higher Education and Create Sustainable Employment Political parties must commit to restoring disrupted academic calendars, ensuring student safety and rebuilding higher education institutions. They must prioritise sustainable job creation and livelihood restoration over pre election handouts, while promoting critical thinking to help citizens recognise misinformation and resist political manipulation. People must demand concrete commitments, not empty promises. Manifestos must spell out what political parties intend to do, how they will do it and how they will be held accountable.
