Following the announcement of expanded eligibility for the Disabled Persons Railcard, we've seen a disturbing wave of disability hate directed at people with ADHD. This has been fuelled by some media outlets, who use clickbait headlines stirring up ableism to bring in more views.

Real people are being affected by this animosity. It has to stop. If you've seen media coverage stirring up disability hate, please tell us about it so we can work to change the narrative. You can send a report to Disability Media Action here: buff.ly/bI28MJt

But tell us again how PIP is too easy to claim. 🤔 Cases like Rachael's further highlight the obvious, pointless cruelty of the current PIP system. Ill and Disabled people shouldn't have to fight an uphill battle to get the support they need to live. buff.ly/a6KGycT

Antonia Aluko, our Policy and Campaigns Officer, said the budget did not go far enough “in addressing the core issues disabled people have been campaigning on”, and that we are also concerned at the hints of further cuts to disability benefits. Read our full comment 👇

Today’s budget announcement shows that the Government is taking some steps to prevent further deprivation. The VAT cut and £100 council tax relief are promising starts to addressing some of the fuel poverty concerns that we have been urging the government to address. #Budget2026

“Chair of @InclusionLondon, @AdamGabsiLDN, said "If access to buses and taxis becomes difficult, then there'll be problems for people like me," he said, adding that although disabled Londoners were consulted on the plan, it was not co-produced by them.” bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c84g…

Small steps towards tackling poverty are welcome, but Disabled people deserve more than just minimal existence. We need dignity, choice, independence and proper investment in the support and services we rely on.

The Timms Review was a first and modest step towards coproduction. We hope next year’s White Paper responding to the Milburn and Timms reviews includes a thorough consultation process, in which Disabled people and our organisations are heard.

This is an opportunity for the Government to genuinely commit to the principle of ‘nothing about us without us’ and support Disabled people not just to survive, but to live with choice and independence.

Ahead of tomorrow's budget, DPCG (led by us and @DisRightsUK) wrote to the Chancellor to demand an end to the scandal of disability poverty in the UK.
The Disability Poverty Campaign Group (DPCG) has sent a letter to the Chancellor, John Healey, urging him to break the endless cycle of disability poverty and to rebuild trust between the community and the government. Read the full story & letter here: disabilityrightsuk.org/news/…
