Totally agree with our friends at @HarrowHAD - we all need dignity, choice, independence, and support we can rely on when we need it, but there's a journey to get us there.
Small steps towards tackling poverty are welcome, but Disabled people deserve more than just minimal existence. We need dignity, choice, independence and proper investment in the support and services we rely on.
Today’s budget announcement shows that the Government is taking some steps to prevent further deprivation. The VAT cut and £100 council tax relief are promising starts to addressing some of the fuel poverty concerns that we have been urging the government to address. #Budget2026

However, the budget doesn't go far enough in addressing the core issues Disabled people have been campaigning on. We're concerned that it hints at further cuts to working age Disabled people and those accessing PIP and Universal Credit.

ADHD, autism, anxiety and depression can bring significant additional costs that the benefits system must recognise. Those costs don’t disappear just because they aren’t always visible.
Our additional costs are real. Our rights are not up for debate. #DisabilityRights
Benefits and Work want to hear from people with ADHD, autism, anxiety or depression, and their carers, about the extra costs you face. Your contribution will help to build a case for protecting cash benefits for people with these conditions.
