What Andy doesn’t mention is that the UK EEZ would cease to exist if Scotland was an independent self governing country. Here’s the Scottish EEZ mapped. Note the “stolen” waters partitioned by Blair and Dewar before devolution.
This is the official map of Scotlands territorial waters (dark blue 12 mile limit) and the UK EEZ (yellow boundary). There is virtually no oil & gas in Scotlands territorial waters (as I recall maybe one small gas(?) field off the coast of Moray). Less than 1% of oil and gas is in Scotlands territorial waters.

Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has won an unprecedented fourth term, thanking Brazil’s youth for helping to defeat right-wing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro with more than 51% of the vote.
Bolsonaro said he would not concede defeat and would seek to annul the result.

Congratulations to Lula on his re-election as President of Brazil! 🇧🇷
Against all odds, @LulaOficial has shown that socialism can triumph over the barbarism of Bolsonaro and the global far right.

Watch as Andy Burnham is warned that his stance against a second Scottish independence referendum is 'a wee bit cheeky' after he said the UK public would be 'the boss' as he sought to get a closer relationship with the EU 👇

🤔 The UK Government wants to revisit Brexit, while denying the people of Scotland the same democratic choice on independence?
Brexit has failed no question, but Scotland too must have the freedom to decide our own future.

A majority in the Assembly has tonight rejected the attempt by unionists to remove me from office.
I’m proud to have stood with the Garvaghy Road residents.
The people of the Garvaghy Road and nationalists across the North will never be treated as second-class citizens.
There will be no going back. Not now, not ever.

I'm not sure who saw this coming, but so far nearly all the jobs created during the second Trump administration have gone to women.

ALT Line chart titled "So far during Trump's second term, just 8% of all job growth has gone to men" showing change in employment by gender since January 2025. Total nonfarm employment grew by 776,000 jobs through September 2026, with women gaining 711,000 positions (92% of growth) while men added only 65,000 jobs (8% of growth). Women's employment gains accelerated sharply through 2026, reaching 711,000 by September, while men's employment growth remained flat with brief periods of decline, including a drop of 96,000 jobs in February 2026.

In AD 208, another large-scale Roman attempt to conquer Scotland was made by Septimius Severus.
The large number of Roman camps in Scotland dated to this period attests to the size of this operation (plus 2 permanent forts).
Cassius Dio, a contemporary, recalls the fate of the invading Roman army:
"Severus, accordingly, desiring to subjugate the whole of it, invaded Caledonia. But as he advanced through the country he experienced countless hardships in cutting down the forests, levelling the heights, filling up the swamps, and bridging the rivers; but he fought no battle and beheld no enemy in battle array. The enemy purposely put sheep and cattle in front of the soldiers for them to seize, in order that they might be lured on still further until they were worn out; for in fact the water caused great suffering to the Romans, and when they became scattered, they would be attacked. Then, unable to walk, they would be slain by their own men, in order to avoid capture, so that a full fifty thousand died."
Severus continued the fight until his death in 211, Caracalla then abandoned the attempt to pacify the region. This would be the last time the Romans tried to conquer Scotland.
Between 80-84 AD, the Romans under General Agricola invaded and occupied Scotland.
Despite being considered a success that completed the Roman conquest of Britain, troubles around the Danube frontier forced a recall of troops from Britain, and 'Roman Scotland' would be abandoned and never fully occupied again.

SNP MSP @jackmiddleton95 says UK laws are "holding back" Scotland's response to the drugs death crisis.
Drugs minister @MareeToddMSP says there's a "very strong case" for Scotland having greater control over drug policy.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Scotland and the rest of the UK operate under the same reserved Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Health, treatment and social care are devolved; Scotland's drug death rate is substantially higher than England and Wales.
