On #NationalReadABookDay, I’m remembering Peter Ortiz—a boy too restless and adventurous to make it through high school, who went on to speak 5+ languages and serve with extraordinary courage & distinction in the French Foreign Legion, @USMC, & OSS. When Ortiz died in 1988, he left behind a little handwritten diary in which he logged books he read in the final years of his life. Am confident social media wouldn’t have been this thing. But National Read a Book Day feels like a holiday he could get behind. As of a few weeks ago, you can also read about him in Ortiz’s War. 📚
