Last Tuesday, a sandwich shop employee pulled my lunch away from me after I selected “No tip.”
The payment had already gone through.
I’d stopped in for two sandwiches, one for me and one for a coworker who couldn’t leave the office.
I entered the order on a self-service screen, took my number, and waited by the counter. When my food was ready, the woman called me over to pay.
She set the bag between us and turned the card reader around.
20%. 25%. 30%.
Underneath was a smaller “No tip” button.
I pressed it and tapped my card.
She checked the screen. Then she looked at me.
“You know we work hard back here, right?”
I said I appreciated that. I was just picking up lunch, and I’d paid the price on the menu.
I wasn’t trying to start a discussion. My break was nearly over.
She kept her hand on the bag.
“Some people like to show their appreciation.”
There were customers behind me now. I could feel them waiting, so I reached for my receipt and said thank you.
Then I reached for the food.
She slid it back behind the register and called the next customer forward.
At first, I thought she’d forgotten something. I waited while she took another payment.
My bag stayed beside her, folded shut.
“Sorry, is there something else you need to put in there?”
She didn’t look at it.
“You can wait.”

I hate to be this cynical, but I’ll be honest…running for Mayor exposes you to things that make you believe the city is actually being overtaken by demonic energy. Drive south Fig at night. Go to 6th and San Pedro. You see children openly prostituting, drug zombies setting dogs and cats on fire, babies born to crackheads and tossed in a dumpster, dead people just lying in the streets…that’s not even to mention the dozen neighbors of ours who burned alive in what is now a crumbled hellscape.
Many times I wondered if the city’s problems weren’t beyond the reach of any politician’s capacity to actually fix. There is a cultural and spiritual rot that can’t be fixed at the ballot box. Until we fix the culture, we are kinda just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic and the shit we shovel around every 4 years doesn’t really mean a thing.
Here's a solid argument for the immediate repeal of the 19th Amendment ...
I voted Democrat in California! Xavier Becerra will carry on Governor Gavin Newsom's great leadership.

There are always 4 votes for anything that will increase Democrat power, so Roberts is the swing vote. If he sells us out again on this, the Republic is done.
🚨BREAKING: Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger has officially signed a bill that would award the state's 13 electoral votes to whoever wins the national popular vote — regardless of how Virginians actually vote.
The legislation, part of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, passed mostly along party lines with Democrat votes. It requires 270 electoral votes from participating states to take effect.
Once activated, your individual vote in Virginia (and other compact states) would be overridden by the nationwide popular vote total.
This is a radical attempt to bypass the Electoral College and diminish the power of individual states.
Unless we utterly crush these people, eventually they will win, because they never stop coming.
