A wanderer from the West
Did go upon an unclear path.
As bone and flesh, alone they went
Through dark unholiness.
A wonder, 'Can I find myself?'
Brought clearing and a voice,
'Nobly Born, seek spiritual dawn
The path is open, it's your choice.'
Along the path, Death,
Mirror of future collapse.
Animal powers surround and protect
The teacher as a corpse.
The teaching is taken.
The Sun emerges.
Book of the Dead
Direct me, resurrect me.
Climbing the mountain, slipping and
Falling, struggling to upper reaches,
The path of practice can be long
And arduous as it teaches.
Holy Book ignites a Vision,
Seeker becomes Seer.
Karmic preparation allows
The face of the Guru to appear.
The three worlds are united,
From lesser to greater Being.
Visions spontaneously liberate
As vastness nakedly seeing.
Awareness supreme and central,
Emptiness radiant and clear,
Inner sun, outer sun, nondual,
In the heart no desire or fear.
Guardians cut loose my empty husk,
A human skin pelt of turquoise sky.
Reveal the mandala of Great Perfection,
A resplendent Buddha, I.
The essential Vajra teaching,
Condensed in a rainbow sun,
Transmits a fractal message,
"Wake up, Everyone!"
The inspired yogi reaches
For universal truth's jewel.
Encoded in a heart drop,
Or a crystalline molecule.
Diamond scepter Vajra,
Pure of stain or ill,
Now has found its heart home
As the engine of creative will.
Empowered to penetrate others,
With primordial waves of bliss,
Shimmering resonant love webs
Spread out to boundlessness.
All beings and things included
In the Bodhisattva's vow.
Therefore a return to 'the world'
But in touch with the timeless now.
An elixir of wisdom and compassion
Does Maitreya bring to all
'Everyone is a future Buddha.
Listen deep for the inner call.'

"The two worlds, the divine and the human, can be pictured only as distinct from each other...Nevertheless -- and here is a great key to the understanding of myth and symbol -- the two kingdoms are actually one. The realm of the gods is a forgotten dimension of the world we know. And the exploration of that dimension, either willingly or unwillingly, is the whole sense of the deed of the hero." - Joseph Campbell, The Hero with a Thousand Faces nitter.cf/JakeOrthwein/status/20…

“The legends of the redeemer describe the period of desolation as caused by a moral fault on the part of man (Adam in the garden, Jemshid on the throne). Yet from the standpoint of the cosmogonic cycle, a regular alternation of fair and foul is characteristic of the spectacle of time. Just as in the history of the universe, so also in that of nations: emanation leads to dissolution, youth to age, birth to death, form-creative vitality to the dead weight of inertia. Life surges, precipitating forms, and then ebbs, leaving jetsam behind. The golden age, the reign of the world emperor, alternates, in the pulse of every moment of life, with the waste land, the reign of the tyrant. The god who is the creator becomes the destroyer in the end.
“From this point of view the tyrant ogre is no less representative of the father than the earlier world emperor whose position he usurped, or than the brilliant hero (the son) who is to supplant him. He is the representative of the set-fast, as the hero is the carrier of the changing. And since every moment of time bursts free from the fetters of the moment before, so this dragon, Holdfast, is pictured as of the generation immediately preceding that of the savior of the world. Stated in direct terms: the work of the hero is to slay the tenacious aspect of the father (dragon, tester, ogre king) and release from its ban the vital energies that will feed the universe…The hero of yesterday becomes the tyrant of tomorrow, unless he crucifies himself today.”

I find the way @elewrockjazz does this very moving (things start to get pushed at 2:30)
every time the chorus breaks through, it's like it has wrested itself free from chaos

I have a great fondness for art that plays between formal structure and the edge of chaos, only briefly breaking through to chaos before returning to form.
In music, there was an era of Jazz where you could find pieces that would devolve into free Jazz about two-thirds of the way through and then return to melodicism (e.g., "Fortune Smiles" by Keith Jarrett).
'2001: A Space Odyssey' is an example of a movie that devolves into chaos then returns to form.
This "form-chaos-form" structure seems to have been common at the edge of late-modernism tilting into post-modernism. Let's assign 1971 to be the peak year.
So, I really appreciate the 1971 Ken Russell film of "The Devils" out in theaters this week.
Eventually, chaos ensues before form returns. My favorite plotline.

the microdynamics of Barfield's Original Participation --> Idolatry --> Final Participation
The sense of relatedness is, in a metaphorical sense, the fall from paradise.
When there is unlimited participation in what is happening, existence altogether is ready-to-hand: there is no sense of relatedness because everything is just happening.
The analytical mode with respect to existence altogether (present-at-hand) can occur either in addition to or instead of the participatory mode.
The root of the (very powerful and potentially beneficial) analytical mode is the granting of attention.
Attention becomes separative and anti-participation when it gets "sticky", which, as a matter of its natural mechanism, it tends to do.
If this natural momentum is continually sacrificed into unlimited possibility of attention, then attention can co-exist with complete participation, releasing the binary of ready-to-hand and present-at-hand.
