The Budget was more austerity, especially freezing income tax thresholds again.
But the Budget found £10bn for the Ukraine war and £5bn for the MoD by cutting other departments.
Now, the Home Secretary has written anti-immigration and asylum rules that previous Tory PMs would have been too timid to adopt.
This is not change.

An activist has disrupted a stall at the World Travel Market in ExCeL London that was advertising holiday homes in occupied territory, confronting the promotion of illegal settlements built on stolen Palestinian land in violation of international law.
The advertising went ahead in the heart of London after Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband pledged in September to ban the advertising of illegal settlements in the UK.

I will never forget that morning when I woke up to find a yellow cube placed outside my home.
It wasn't just a marker; it was a declaration that I no longer had the right to stay in my own home, that I had to leave immediately, without being allowed to take anything with me.
Imagine becoming a stranger in your own home overnight, being forced to abandon everything you own, knowing that even thinking about crossing that yellow marker or returning to your home could mean being shot by a sniper and killed on the spot.
A single yellow cube was enough to tell me that my home was no longer mine, and that I was no longer allowed anywhere near the land I had lived on my entire life.
What kind of crime is this, where a person is punished with bullets simply for trying to return home? And what kind of world allows someone to seize your land, drive you out, and then shoot you for trying to reclaim it?

New action campaign: Labour’s chair, Bridget Phillipson, gave Green councillors seven days to disown a motion that calls Zionism racism. The Greens in eleven councils refused, so Labour is pulling out of all eleven.
To explain how extreme this measure is, in Sheffield, it would rather run the city with 26 of 84 seats than share it with 19 Greens.
That is the hill Labour has chosen to die on. It is putting eleven councils at risk because Green members said that Zionism, the political ideology behind stealing Palestinian land, is racist.
Phillipson, who set the deadline and has now taken this extreme action, has the following in her register of interests:
- £105,000 towards her office staff from two pro-Israel donors: £80,000 from Stuart Roden in 2023, and £25,000 from Sir Trevor Chinn between 2022 and 2024.
- ELNET UK, a pro-Israel lobby group, paid about £3,000 for one of her staff to go on a Labour study tour of Israel in July 2023.
Thirteen months ago, Labour’s conference voted to recognise Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Now it is punishing a party for naming the ideology behind it.
Starmer backed Zionism “without qualification”. Burnham is breaking up councils over a vote that calls it racism. This is the same politics, just with a new face.
So we have created a new action campaign where you can write to your local councillors. Put in your postcode, and each of your ward councillors gets a letter in your name, tailored to their party:
1. Greens: hold your position, and keep the offer of local cooperation open in writing.
2. Labour: do not vote to end the joint administration. Tell the NEC your council comes first.
3. Liberal Democrats: say publicly that a view on Zionism is not a condition of working together.
4. Conservatives and Reform: apply the free speech you campaign on.

The party that has armed and enabled Israel's obliteration of Gaza is "fact checking" and refusing to work with Green councillors who call out the ideology that has led to this genocide as racist. Let that sink in for a minute.
FACT CHECK:
✅ Local Green groups were given an opportunity to denounce the disgraceful "Zionism is Racism" policy and call on their leadership to do the same.
✅ Several did, and those local arrangements remain in place.
❌ It's disappointing more Green groups didn't feel they could do the same - we continue to call on the Green Party to drop this appalling policy.
✅ Today's action addresses support for this unacceptable policy - which clearly crosses a line. Local power sharing arrangements cannot come at the expense of upholding the moral obligation we have to stand up for everyone in our communities and the values we share.
❌ Today's action was not about whether people can or cannot criticise the actions of the Israeli Government - as the Labour Party repeatedly has.
❌ Any suggestion that today's action was about anything other than the "Zionism is Racism" policy is plain misinformation.
✅ Labour councillors will continue working hard day in, day out for their local communities. That's what we do.
