It’s pretty clear in VEC guidelines. You would absolutely expect the Libs to be across a very simple rule.
They knew you can’t exceed the donation cap, either with money, goods or services in-kind.
Remember the recent UK expose of Farage? A donor was encouraged not to make a donation direct, but to pay the invoice of a commissioned poll. This was foreign money (which is illegal in both countries) but the principle is similar.
Many, many people on this platform pointed this out to Hughes as soon as his first public campaigning night happened. If regular folk here knew, the Libs should have. They probably thought they would just get away with it and counted on the VEC being toothless.
