I'm just going to come out and say it: I'm now as frightened of what Starmer's Labour will do in power as I am of the Tories. Their policies and attitudes are almost identical. They don't mean to do good for the people. They will be yet another boot stamping on a human face.
It's reassuring to see so many people tweeting about Patrick Stewart. Maybe we humans are not as lost as it seemed we were. I've never liked so many posts in my whole Twitter lifetime as I have tonight.
I saw Patrick Stewart just once in person. I was attending a TOS convention in Birmingham, 80s. He came along to do an ad hoc talk about his new role & the upcoming TNG series. I watched in a crowded room, interested, but knowing Kirk was my captain. So why can't I stop blubbing?

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work.
My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.
I just found out Patrick Stewart has died, and in the same week as Walter Koenig. I don't usually cry over celeb deaths but don't seem to be able to help it for Star Trek ones. Also, knowing Patrick Stewart was suffering from Lewy Body Dementia, which my dad had, is hard to bear.

RIP Patrick Stewart. Coming the same week as Walter Koenig, this feels like a real kick in the teeth

Today Andy Burnham made a gift of £1000 from every Brit to Ukraine while giving us £30 off our standing charge - but not yet and certainly not before the profiteering energy companies rack bills up by another 27% in January.
Are we going to be this fucking stupid for ever?
This & its various copies are utterly hilarious. Labour really must think we are sheep. 🐑 'Bold vision' 🤣 As for the Greens/Your Party, watch this space. Sticking on the animal theme, I suggest Labour is counting its chickens a 'touch' too soon. Never give up, never surrender!

Even if Labour apologised for smearing Corbyn and the left. Even if they admitted all their errors. I would never trust that bunch of people again in my life. And I don’t think that I am alone.

Labour really is swimming in fake hubris, isn't it? Thinks it's defeated the Greens and has an open goal to try and chivvy lefties back into its open arms, thinks people are easily fooled by tiny tweaks and should join Momentum 🤯 for radicalism, and has invented 'hopescrolling'.

"What crime has my little girl committed to be forced to face death at such a young age? Why must my daughter learn the meaning of terror before she ever gets to experience the meaning of safety?"
My daughter Kiraz is still living in a state of horrific shock because of what happened right before her eyes yesterday. It is a scene that will never be erased from her memory, and a terror that will continue to haunt her even after the explosions stop.
The explosion was only a few meters away from us. In a matter of seconds, everything turned upside down. Dust and smoke engulfed the area, shrapnel flew all around us, and everything turned into a terrifying scene, as if death had surrounded us from every direction.
The blast was so deafening and powerful that it was unbearable. Kiraz’s eardrums were ruptured, and blood began flowing from her ears, while we struggled to comprehend what had happened and desperately tried to survive.
From yesterday until this very moment, my daughter has been unable to sleep. Her heart is still racing with fear, and she is still experiencing the same terror, as if the explosion were happening before her eyes over and over again.
Kiraz is just a little girl who should have been sleeping peacefully in her father’s arms, not trembling in fear of death. She should have been living her childhood in safety, not witnessing death with her own eyes and hearing an explosion that nearly destroyed both her life and her father’s in a single moment.
I do not know how to explain to my little girl what happened, or how to reassure her that she is safe when I cannot even guarantee that we will survive the next explosion.
We miraculously survived yesterday, but the terror Kiraz experienced did not end when the explosion stopped. Its effects still linger in her little body, robbing her of sleep and stealing away her sense of safety.

To this very moment, we do not know how we survived certain death. All I know is that I was only a few meters away from losing my daughter, and the thought that I nearly lost her in a single moment will haunt me for the rest of my life.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Walter Koenig’s passing.
Although we did not know each other well away from the set, we shared the later seasons of the original Star Trek series and the six films that followed.
What I observed, and what so many fans have expressed over the years, was a man who genuinely loved the Star Trek community.
At conventions, Walter was rarely content to remain behind a signing table. He preferred to be among the people who had kept Star Trek alive for so many decades.
That kind of genuine connection is rare, and it will be remembered by everyone who came into contact with him.
My condolences to his family, his friends, and the countless fans whose lives he touched.

Following Lula’s surprise win in the Brazilian presidential election, Netanyahu has announced that Brazil is just three weeks away from developing a nuclear weapon. Given he has a 100% track record of being wrong about these things, we should take the warning very seriously.
Netanyahu is worried he could lose the Israeli election after his army chief refused to bomb Iran to boost his chances. Therefore, he desperately needs a last-minute bogey man to scare Israelis into re-electing him. The Brazilian president fits the bill because he once described Israel as a “terrorist state”.
Clearly, something must be done about Lula because no one who tells the truth about Israel is allowed to lead a country. Last night’s result was truly a crime against humanity.
Polymarket bros were burying their heads as Lula took a shock lead in an election he wasn’t supposed to win. When the final result came in, President Trump took the calm and measured step of immediately rejecting it. Reassuringly, the US Navy is expected to start bombing Brazilian fishing boats in the next few hours.
No one seriously expected it would come to this, given the fascist wave that’s swept across Latin America. Trump and Netanyahu had conducted a range of liberations on the continent, such as kidnapping Venezuela’s president and flipping the voting machines in Colombia. No wonder they were confident they could pull off a coup in Brazil.
The good people at Meta were so keen to help out that they banned Lula from running electoral ads. An infuriated Lula said: “We cannot have monstrously huge corporations earning millions and billions, paying no taxes to this country, and trying to steer this country’s election results.”
This proves Lula is a dictator who needs to be stopped—and we tried. We really tried.
On election night, Bolsonaro’s henchmen shut down public transport in pro-Lula areas, and even cut the power cable to one polling station, but the Brazilian Supreme Court used this as an excuse to extend voting hours.
Of course, none of this would’ve mattered if Brazilian voters weren’t idiots. It should’ve been such an easy choice: the former steel worker who lost a finger at work versus the man who has never worked a day in his life.
Obviously, nepo baby Flavio is on the side of ordinary workers. He’s a clone of the jailed super-villain whose only goal is the total destruction of the Amazon. Mini-Bolsonaro offered the mouthwatering prospect of gangsterism and the end of breathable air. 48% of Brazilians thought that was a brilliant idea, but the other 52% reminded us why democracy is a failed experiment.
Just look at Lula’s tyranny: the monster reduced the workday without loss of salary and then strutted over to the UN to defend Palestine and Cuba. During his third term poverty and inequality fell, while unemployment, illiteracy and deforestation hit record lows.
Bolsonaro vowed to reverse all of these things and give Brazil’s resources to Trump. He also vowed to tongue kiss the wall in Israel. Now the only thing he’s gonna be tongue-kissing is the wall in his jail cell.
Victory would’ve meant Bolsonaro avoided prison for corruption, money laundering, and tax evasion. No wonder he refuses to accept the result.
It’s turning into a truly terrible week for fascists. We’d already lost one amazing tyrant yesterday in Vucic, and now we’re facing the prospect of a Trump wipe out in the midterms and a Netanyahu defeat in Israel. I’m just consoling myself with the fact that the alternatives to Netanyahu are even worse—and the alternatives to MAGA are no better.

Students were targeted inside the Islamic University of Gaza moments ago. There are reports of martyrs and injuries.
Do you realize how terrifying life in Gaza has become? Students are being killed inside their own university, in a place they went to learn, not to die!
Even universities have not been spared. Even students are no longer safe in their own classrooms.
Where can anyone be safe in Gaza if even a university is no longer a safe place?
Just in time for the next election, eh? Fascinating timing. Is it a crystal ball, or have aliens or time travellers been visiting? How strange.
