It is deeply frustrating that the NI executive will not be represented at the important meeting on economic growth with the PM tomorrow. I understand feelings are running high but it must be in the interests of the people of Northern Ireland that everyone gets round the table.

Economy Minister Dr @CArchibald_SF was delighted to join a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Derry Halloween Festival. Speaking at the event in Derry’s St Columb’s Hall, the Minister said: “What began as a small local event in 1986 has grown into Europe's largest Halloween festival and one of the most significant tourism and cultural attractions in Ireland. With around 120,000 visitors expected, the festival is expected to generate more than 27,000 bed nights, providing a significant boost for local businesses and the wider visitor economy. Derry Halloween provides a unique and compelling reason to visit the city, and with its unique combination of culture, folklore and world-class entertainment, it remains a truly unmissable experience for visitors of all ages. I congratulate everyone involved in its development over the years and wish the organisers, participants and visitors every success for what promises to be another spectacular Derry Halloween Festival.”

Today, the Lads power washed a pensioner’s back yard to clear slippery moss, took out the weeds from the outdoor spaces of another resident and cleared up leaves, rubbish, overhanging branches and painted out graffiti to make the barrack steps a less intimidating space. 💪

🎃 Derry Halloween is back in full swing this evening! One of the standout shows is the Beetlejuice Unleashed Halloween Flash Mob outside Castle & Cove, bringing spooky energy, colour and creativity to the city. Completely unfunded and independent, the team has pulled out all the stops to deliver a fantastic show. The show is the work of Urban Shock Dance 👏

Ulster Unionist Party Leader Jon Burrows has said the DUP's decision to keep Northern Ireland out of tomorrow's Economic Forum in Glasgow punishes Northern Ireland, not Michelle O'Neill. The Ulster Unionist Party Leader said: “Tomorrow the Prime Minister and the leaders of Scotland and Wales will meet in Glasgow to talk about growth, investment and what the Union can deliver. Keeping Northern Ireland out of the room does not punish Michelle O'Neill. It punishes Northern Ireland and lets down everyone who believes in its future within the United Kingdom. “Whatever the reason for the DUP's absence from Glasgow, it is an act of self-harm for our economy and our Union. We need a voice at the table with our Prime Minister and the other devolved leaders. “If the deputy First Minister won't go, another Executive minister should. Health Minister Robbie Butler would be an obvious choice: someone who would go to Glasgow to make Northern Ireland's case, not to make a point. “This week, the Ulster Unionist Party has been promoting the benefits of the United Kingdom: stronger economic and national security, shared opportunities and the contribution Northern Ireland makes to our collective success. “That is what unionism should be doing: making the Union more secure and Northern Ireland more successful. You cannot champion the Union by leaving Northern Ireland's chair empty.”

I think it’s likely people in NI will eventually get the £100 because there will have to be a budget at some point, either via Westminster or Stormont. A scenario where it doesn’t arrive is a Westminster budget where the Barnett consequential is used for something else.

To be clear, the offer to the NI Executive of £1.5bn across three years stands as does the £131m in Barnett consequentials this year. But the Executive can only lawfully spend 95% of last year’s budget unless it sets a budget. 1/2

Reading the FM and DFM statements, it seems both will keep attending events anyway in a personal capacity, and both acknowledge that will happen.

Danske Bank in NI made a pre-tax profit of £209m in the first nine months of this year. They wrote nearly £1bn of mortgages across their UK book saying lending was resilient, ‘supported by sustained housing demand and low unemployment in Northern Ireland.’
