I listened to this hoping to be reassured by the side saying AI extinction risk is low. None of their points even slightly convinced me.
@So8res is exceptional here r.e. the AI safety case. More power to him.

Anyone else feel this: the more research (esp theory) I outsource to AI, the more mentally exhausted I get.
At first, seems paradoxical. It’s doing more of the hard thinking for you, yet somehow you’re more drained than when you did it all yourself.
But I think it makes sense ↓
AI gives you answers faster than you can understand, & each opens up several more answers to understand.
Pre-AI, we’d spend hours arriving at one answer. Those hours also built understanding. Now we try to build this understanding in minutes, for many answers at once.

Happy to see my paper with Lucas Corrêa-Dias and @HPellegrina in @EJ_RES.
A short 🧵 1/10
This is my first baby as a Special Issue Editor at the Economic Journal @EJ_RES. Honestly, I am proud of this. Please check it out.
My very brief Intro and - most importantly - the leading paper by @brunoconteleite, @klausvanieper , @HansbergRossi are free to see.
What does this all mean for policy?
We use the social cost of carbon to compare policies. We find:
Diet policies, e.g. meat tax, can increase welfare.
Eat local policies however backfire. Transportation emissions are small while foreign producers can have higher yields ⇒ GHG ↓
Incredible news. Well done. Well deserved @HPellegrina 🎉🎉
Congratulations to our colleague Heitor Pellegrina (@HPellegrina), who has been promoted to associate professor with tenure. Heitor is an outstanding scholar and a dedicated teacher. We are so happy to have him as a permanent member of our faculty!
