If the world is getting a little too much may I recommend the inexplicably obsolete word ‘latibulating’, from the 17th century? To latibulate is to find a cosy corner somewhere and hide in it.

I dug through reports showing a Lancashire factory site’s contamination with the carcinogen PFOA was known for nearly 20 years before anyone was alerted. The town’s residents already have high levels in their blood.

I'm sure this is wonderfully good news, but I can't help but think it is ridiculous that such manufactured scarcity of money results in such a charade as 'everyone chipping a bit in' for something that is clearly a public good, is necessary. 🙄
Friday morning's actual good news!! 🙌
"Wildlife Trusts hit £30m target to buy and rewild huge Northumberland estate.
About 25,000 members of public chip in £17m towards 3,800-hectare Rothbury estate, described as ‘once-in-a-generation opportunity’."

ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER RECORD LOW 💩
In 2025, almost every water company in England was ranked as performing poorly. Meanwhile, sewage continued to flow into our rivers, and promised improvements failed to materialise.
A system that rewards shareholders and creditors is failing our rivers, wildlife and bill payers.
The time for half-measures is over.
Thames Water must go into Special Administration now. This would protect the public, keep essential services running and create an opportunity to reset the industry properly.
We need the Government to end the failed privatisation experiment, explore alternatives including public ownership, and give regulators the power to make polluters pay - not the public.

Almost as if you can't make up for 20 years of regulatory blind-eyed incompetence, profiteering and underinvestment within one year, ain't it. 🤨
