after trying @useblacksmith for one day on Silk 😭 Service is great, but they really need to support spend limits (if they don't do it already, I couldn't find it though)

I’m really feeling the need to support pre-install and build hooks in Silk, but they’re also real attack vectors. On one hand, a systems language is supposed to give developers fine-grained access to the OS, and they’re partly responsible for using that safely. On the other, I don’t want Silk users to shoot themselves in the foot just by installing a malicious or compromised package. We barely read our own code nowadays, let alone the code in every dependency we pull in. I find these decisions really difficult, and they often leave me paralyzed.

Now imagine how marriage is for a lesbian couple who both could eat anything... - I'm hungry, what are we having for dinner? - Anything - yea, could be..anything... - yea, whatever, anything..what do you have in mind? - anything, pretty much... (3 hours later we order pizza because it's the quickest option, we are starving, and it's almost 11pm and all restaurants are closing) oh, or even better when we go - Oh, I want to eat something, but I think it doesn't exist - yea, I know what you mean...
THIS IS FUGGIN BRILLIANT!!!

Claude: It should take about 6 to 9 weeks of focused work

People pissed with @AnthropicAI because they think they are being scammed now only to realize they have been scammed this whole time... The "20x PRO..... 5h limits🤫" was sooo scammy, and the fact that most people read that as 20x PRO's limits overall just reinforces that

From all Silk ports I asked AI to write, QuickJs has been by far the hardest to hill-climb performance. Hard to compete with C low level witchcraft and with Fucking Fabrice Bellard. I'm confident Claude will make it happen tho, let's keep the token hose open 🙃

I'm simply incapable of making either Claude or Codex give me a half decent logo for Silk.

As a lesbian, I get deeply annoyed when people try to make @poteto and @thsottiaux happen...

Silk doesn't support windows yet The reason being none of the VM services I use offer windows VMs, and Worktrees already fill my entire hard drive so I don't have space for local VM... Also because powershell intimidates me

Benchmarked silk-layout (CSS layout in Silk) against taffy and yoga on taffy’s README trees: 27% less time than taffy and 81% less than yoga, geomean across all 17.

Silk's compiler still uses a single core. In a cold build comparison between Harfrust and its direct Silk port, Silk narrowly beats Rust on 4 cores: 16.5s vs 18.7s. With Rust on a single core too, Silk builds about 2.3x faster: 16.5s vs 38.8s. Both languages have similar memory guarantees. These aren't rigorous benchmarks. The Silk font shaping library diverges from Harfrust here and there, even though it's a direct port. They still have complete feature parity. These are the numbers I'm using to decide my next steps. Still very exciting :3

Unicode 18 text segmentation library in Silk: graphemes, words, sentences and line breaking (with CSS line-break options). Benchmarked against Rust’s ICU4X on Latin, RTL, Indic, CJK and emoji text, it’s faster on almost every one. Up to 2.9x faster in some cases 👇

Heyy frends.. Turns out a tweet isn't enough for someone who gets nerd-sniped as easily as I do, so I'm giving these Twitter articles a try. I hope you find it interesting :3
