OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes people owning RAM is wasteful, and that it belongs in data centers instead. "From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer."

my wish for scripts i write for voice actors: punctuation to be literary, not dictational. it's *your performance, you decide where to hitch, pause, or rattle. i understand years of performance direction tell you a comma is a pause but literarily it's a separation of ideas/subjects within a sentence if you say "Hi, Randy" you communicate something very different by pausing vs not not a rant, and i know i'm the minority in this take. i just realize how often i need to remove punctuation altogether to get the read as it's written

For me it was magnesium. Less anxiety and better sleep days after I started supplementing
If you're having intense anxiety or sleep issues and you feel exhausted no matter how much you sleep, before you think you're having mental health issues check your iron levels.

When I tried to help SAG with AI education a couple years ago, I joined a committee that invited me to a meeting with an AI company that was flirting with the union. "We have to see how it works" they said. I said, "No we don't, we know what it does, don't you?". But they met anyway & I would be there just as a technical advisor. We got a demo, the tech guy assured us we'd all be feeding our voices in "on the ground floor" getting in before everyone & making more money with less work. "Make money in your PJs" always comes up as a trite, oft-repeated slogan for actors, as though we all hate what we do as much as tech bros. They all joked together & my side asked the most cringey tech-illiterate questions. When they did, I heard his voice smile because he knew he had them. My side played their cards & showed their ignorance & whole ass, trying to figure out the most lucrative way forward, while talking about how this is necessary to achieve AI protections. I was the only person to say "what do you have to say about the ethical repercussions? That all of this was built from stolen data and exploitation, in order to achieve more stolen data and exploitation". On my side, people interrupted me, apologizing for me. You know what I was told by my own people? "Well it will only affect the less talented, less in-demand actors." I contested, but as a new member I was told "sometimes you have to change things from the inside, Melissa". So I never went back to another meeting. It felt like Invasion of the Bodysnatchers & I was the only one uninfected. That's why I stopped. The damage was already done & already in too deep. And no one seemed interested in fixing it. I know a losing battle when I see one. The great hope is that a union is comprised of its members, & regimes change. There's no permanent jobs in the union. But there ARE some great people in the Union who are actually fighting for the good things, but the foundation is rotten. I hope things change. Even though SAG just renewed Duncan's contract until 2032 because he's doing such a good job. 👍 This was a committee member meeting not an official union negotiation. My point is that if this is happening so openly around lower leadership, I hate to think what decisions are made even further behind closed doors.

Your time at any job will be better for you, if you can learn to genuinely celebrate when good things happen to others. Not just the people you like, Not just outwardly, but inwardly too

Replying to @mattworkman
Forcing developers to write a political statement to be used against them by the hate mob they’re helping organize is abhorrent.

I had an audio quality consult where they said: "I've looked around a lot, searched, and asked and I can't find anything that clearly defines 'broadcast quality' and whatever is written out is never the same or agreed on" let's talk about that I have edited in-studio recordings for games animations and commercials and there is very little consistency across each, even within the same project. noise floor, loudness, boxiness, background traffic and airplanes, some run through more hardware than others, ass internet... in-studio that makes it difficult to get a straight answer. Some studios have their own standards and I've even seen it change circumstantially. I imagine clients can influence that. At best it's just case by case and subjective. At worst it's a deliberately moving goal post It takes me :10 to reduce a normal noise floor, and I'm asked to do it anyways when I'm a production engineer so that's kind of a bs factor. and it takes me another :20 to eq different recordings to sound nearly identical. It's so easy I mean that. The hardest thing to do without detection is removing background noises during a take, and removing reflections cleanly. not impossible but not always possible and potentially expensive to do pickups or recast. and sometimes nobody hears it until after the audio is processed When all of that comes out to a group high-five despite those hurdles, I have still found the source audio to usually sound muffled [recorded in too small of an over treated space], with a 💾 noise floor sitting as high as -65dB and only ever as low as -70dB with zero reflections that's about as straight of an answer as you're going to get across the board. don't take my word for it though, pay attention to where you do and dont get a straight answer from if you ask. This is exactly why I started 'Iridescent Audio' and why I offer 'Help Your Audio'. Not everyone is an engineer, but you do have reasonable access to one
