The “District of Columbia Local Funds Act” - S. 1077, has been unanimously passed in the Senate. Alongside many others we ask the President and Speaker to encourage the House to pass this act. Public safety and police jobs are on the line, it’s crucial we see this act pass.

We sure hope so. It is long past time for an Office of the Child Advocate with the power to have independent oversight and ability to investigate.

.@GovWesMoore, we call on you to VETO HB814! In your inaugural address, you said "We do not have to choose between a safe state and a just state", but this bill won't make Maryland safer or more just – it’ll just hurt kids. Be courageous and VETO HB814!

Maryland leads the country in incarcerating young Black kids. HB814 will make that worse. If the bill goes into effect, more elementary school kids will be incarcerated for minor offenses and put in jail before court. @GovWesMoore our kids need you to VETO HB814!

MYJC joins @HeatherWarnken & @DrAlexPiquero in calling for @GovWesMoore to veto HB814. "The governor has repeatedly committed to being data-driven and heart-led, and no one in Maryland deserves this more than our kids." #mdga24 #CareNotCages
“The bill reflects a disturbing and unjustified, nationwide trend of reactionary public safety policymaking… Drawing kids deeper into the system, especially for nonviolent offenses, increase[s] their chances of being arrested again on new charges.” baltimoresun.com/2024/04/09/…

"Embracing a public health approach to violence prevention requires... a continuum of developmentally appropriate community-based services for emerging adults...." This is key: we can be safer AND less punitive, but we're whiffing on implementing what we know to be true.
"You cannot arrest your way to safe neighborhoods.” - @PDAshton Mayor Bowser and other leadership’s absence in supporting preventative measures has led to #MissedOpportunities, and now she calls for a return to outdated 'tough on crime' tactics. #DCCrime bit.ly/3thG6Z5
