Strong intervention from @DrRosena at PMQs, highlighting the crisis in temporary accommodation.
A £4bn council funding gap and families stuck in poor conditions.
Temporary accommodation must be short, safe and healthy.

Warm words and unarguable sentiments in Bridget Phillipson's speech but #SEND reforms VERY light on details - not least addressing critical workforce shortages, meaningful funding, access to FE and training, and ultimately work/life chances.
Hope there is much more in the White Paper.
On the point of private equity - need an interrogation and reforms re private equity in education, nurseries, social care, NHS, land, agriculture public sector - every area!

More than half of borrowers now use credit cards just to pay for essentials.
With credit card interest rates around 20%, debt becomes a mechanism of redistribution: money flows from workers to banks simply so households can afford food, rent and utilities

The parliamentary launch of the report 'It's like torture' by @K_Brickell & @rosalie_warnock was a great success.
Lived experience is an essential part of driving the work of the APPG. We're grateful to the families and children who presented last night.

For months I’ve had serious concerns about a hostel in Lambeth housing vulnerable adults and children, including women fleeing domestic violence. The conditions and behaviour of staff are beyond alarming. Today, I’ve written to the Leader of Lambeth Council, MP Helen Hayes, and Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips.
Kids and parents bitten by bedbugs, fire doors broken, random men entering at night, taking drugs and sleeping in their hallways.
⚠️ Government has got it wrong, scrapping flooring from the Decent Homes Standard.
💷 When a home comes without floors, it comes with debt – esp. for people after homelessness + domestic abuse.

On this basis we would stop paying for free school meals for children and free bus passes for pensioners.
I don’t use it/don’t benefit is literally the direct opposite reason why we have taxation to fund pubic goods.
Education is a public good. Fund it!
2026: Labour Chancellor Rachel Reeves, "It is not right that people who don't go to university bear the cost for others to"
2020: That time Labour leader Keir Starmer said he would scrap university tuition fees
Your reminder:
£20 billion is the cost of cancelling all student loans
£10 billion is the annual cost of abolishing tuition fees
£90 billion is the lost tax revenue because of Brexit
Labour trying to make Brexit work is making us poorer and unable to afford the things Labour once said they would do eg scrap university tuition fees
#RejoinEU cancel student debt, make education free because education lifts all of society
