I’m not at all shy about blaming DEI where appropriate, and it often is appropriate. But I see no DEI angle on this jet crash. The female pilot was not flying the plane. The captain was a 55 year old man. Trying to blame the girl for the crash is absurd and baseless. Yes she seemed frantic and terrified in the radio call but I would be to, and so would you. And even if she’d been cool as a cucumber, there isn’t the slightest reason to think it would have made any difference at all. I’ll fully admit that I wouldn’t get in a plane if the copilot was a 20 year old girl. But that doesn’t change the fact that there is no evidence that she was personally at fault. And for the record, becoming a pilot at 20 is pretty impressive. She had her shit together a lot more than I did at that age. I’ll say that at least. I don’t think airlines or private charter companies should be making any specific effort at all to be “inclusive” of women or whatever, but it’s still admirable for a kid to have a goal like that and pursue it. I don’t see any reason to mock her, as some have done. Some of the comments about that audio recording have been callous to an unhuman degree. None of you would have the stoicism in that situation that you demand from this girl. And again, there’s no reason to think stoicism would have magically kept the plane from falling out of the sky. Besides, she actually did seem pretty calm in that recording until the last few seconds, relative to the circumstance she was in. I don’t want my pilot to panic but I also don’t want them to be completely indifferent to the prospect of a fatal crash, as some commenters here apparently expect.

I don’t think there’s anything concrete worth taking away from this other than the fact that the public still refuses to accept the basic nature of LLMs.
We asked GPT-6 Astra to edit Qwen3.5-0.8B weights to improve math. It directly changed only 0.016% of weights, fixing 0.8B's reasoning loops & improving math up to 6x and even instruction following 3x, without gradients or training. We call this Weight-Space Programming: frontier LLMs can now natively read/write neural network weights! 🧵 Blog: rikiyat.github.io/blog/weigh…

Brother, this does not bode well for data centers, but it does bode well for pc gamers.

I’m always a little bit shocked at the level of self-awareness these types of people have.

The wildest part about diving into my Catholic faith was finding out that I understood the founder far better than I did when I was just listening to Protestants talk about them.
In the name of Christian unity on Reformation Day, I think we should all agree that Martin Luther was right about the perpetual virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

AI may well be able to write massive software projects “from scratch”, but that almost certainly isn’t the fastest / highest performance / highest security / most token efficient way to do things. Good building blocks matter. In addition to RL’ing the agents on final task loss, we should try to get them to regularize the building blocks as well. What would the standard library look like that makes the agents most effective? It is likely at the limit that it turns out to be some alien organization of code, but given the existing human-bias in training, I bet that in the near term it would be lovely code that old programmers would appreciate. I suspect the same could be said for mathematics, but that is out of my lane.

Never, ever let them tell you it can't be done.
Palmer Luckey says analysts claiming it's too expensive to manufacture in the US are lying to protect megacorps "I think I have a more realistic view than almost anybody. One of the problems with all these analysts that are telling you that it's going to cost $37,000 to build an American iPhone or $100,000 to buy an American computer." "They're trying to prop up a status quo that the megacorporations want to keep going. They want to outsource everything. They want to hire cheaper non-American labor." "They are willing to say and do anything to convince you that it can't be fixed, that it can't come back, that America is this helpless, neutered, post-relevant empire, and it is just not the case." "How do I know that? Because I have to make stuff in America every day because I work in the defense industry. The stuff that Anduril makes every day is not actually that different from a computer. My drones are basically computers. They have memory, a GPU, a CPU, sensors, batteries, a rugged integration." "The only difference between an Anduril attack drone and a laptop is a keyboard and a screen. That is not that hard to figure out, especially for a guy like me who started Oculus and comes from the consumer electronics space." "We're not going to let people lie about what America can and can't do anymore. We're just going to do it."

Libghostty progress in the past 6 months. It's amazing that NOTHING IN THIS LIST was true 6 months ago, and now its ALL VERY REAL. I remember bringing up the idea of libghostty 4 years ago and most people saying "but why." I did it anyways. And here we are! Text reproduced in case its easier to read this way: As a reminder, libghostty is the highly portable, embeddable library that provides core terminal emulation, render state, and more. I always felt that a free, high qualty, lightweight, reusable terminal emulation core would benefit the developer world more than any single GUI application. And that is playing out! It is and always was my true purpose with the Ghostty project (I said this in my first ever talk about Ghostty!). I've jokingly said many times that Ghostty GUI is just a glorified tech demo for libghostty. That's not fair though, because GUI is great and there are really talented people working on it. Since I started the project, Ghostty has always gotten people saying "I don't understand why you'd start a terminal emulator today." Well, the answer is libghostty. It's truly unique and its enabling something special (imo!). Highlights of libghostty since 6 months ago (none of the below was true 6 months ago): - Libghostty has nearly 100% coverage of all of Ghostty's core (and you can compile with flags to remove any of these features for size/safety): libghostty.tip.ghostty.org/ - Libghostty now builds and is tested (in CI) for: Apple (macOS, iOS, visionOS), Windows (MSVC and GNU), Linux, FreeBSD, Android, WebAssembly, and freestanding (i.e. direct on hardware with no OS). - Libghostty has bindings in pretty much every popular programming language: C, Zig, Go, Swift, Python, Rust, .NET, etc. - Libghostty's memory requirements have dramatically shrunk to enable the portability above. There's still work to do but a single empty terminal now takes 90% less memory. And at scale I've proven 10,000 active (input/output happening) terminals on a Linux server with 4 cores and 8 GB of RAM. - Libghostty powers all JetBrains IDE terminals, over 12.5 million active users. blog.jetbrains.com/platform/…... - Libghostty is the most popular core behind the wave of venture-backed "agentic" terminals and editors, such as Herdr, cmux, and many others. - Libghostty is being discussed and has been verbally accepted to replace the terminal core in Neovim: github.com/neovim/neovim/pul… (work still to be done) - Libghostty powers a really popular and powerful terminal emulator for emacs (Ghostel): github.com/dakra/ghostel - Libghostty's speed is used by Antithesis to fuzz popular terminal programs and has directly led to hundreds of bug fixes sent upstream to programs such as tmux, btop, shells, and other terminal emulators. :) - And so much more: github.com/Uzaaft/awesome-li… Libghostty is really successfully turning into the tide that raises all boats. As it becomes more popular, Ghostty itself gets more performant and stable, and so does everyone else. It is also a vehicle for delivering modern terminal emulation to the widest source possible. I plan on tagging libghostty 1.0 in the next few months and declaring ABI stability at that point!

It actually blows my mind that the legal process can drag an abuse victim for years on end. Like, what are you going to find after four years?!
UPDATE! Bardstown cop's wife is still behind bars. She has NOT bonded out. Lauren Winans, 31, is charged with 2 counts of 1st degree sodomy, 1st degree incest, and 1st degree sexual abause. The alleged victim is a family member under the age of 12. Her arraignment is scheduled for Nov 5. Her husband, Andy Winans, is a Bardstown police officer, and former Nelson County deputy. But there's more. Of course. Updated photos circulating online show the couple posing on a Nelson County Sheriff's vehicle with blue lights on. The sheriff's office called the conduct "completely inappropriate" and says Andy Winans was disciplined at the time. He resigned from the Nelson County Sheriff's department in early 2026 and Bardstown PD hasn't commented. I think the one thing that people often miss about this is that unless you have a tyrannical legal and social framework backing you up, tolerance of other groups can only come when we’re allowed a healthy criticism of those groups.
Pope Leo to American Jews: "Rooted in our shared spiritual heritage, this friendship also calls us to defend human dignity, to serve the poor, to protect religious freedom and to promote justice and peace. "The Church does not tolerate anti-Semitism."

Thank God for tradition.
How should Christians approach Halloween? Christians tend to fall into four different camps when it comes to participating in Halloween: - Total abstinence - Full participation - Partial participation - Redemptive participation Some abstain from Halloween altogether. Others fully participate in the festivities, while some enjoy the family fun without participating in the glorification of evil. I believe the better alternative is redemptive participation. My mom has set this example for me for years. She uses Halloween as an opportunity to share the gospel by attaching Bible verses to candy, making Scripture signs for her front lawn, and sharing the love of Jesus with the families who come to her door. As she says, “What other time of year do you have people coming to your home and asking you for something? This is like the easiest evangelism opportunity possible.” A night associated with darkness can actually be an opportunity to shine the light of Christ.

It’s be not afraid of evil, not you’re wrong to be afraid, or in other words be brave. Also, my sister in Christ, the angles say be not afraid because they have a terrifying presence.
