Yeah, and you know what program they’ll target first? men’s soccer. From where I sit, I don’t think the coaches advocating for a longer season have stopped to consider they may be costing some of their brethren (maybe even themselves) their jobs
Hate being this guy, but if you’re a DI school and your argument against the fall/spring calendar in men’s soccer — which adds zero additional games or days to the season — is you can’t afford it, you should probably shrink your athletic department.

Great stuff from @markjburns88 👊
We know Ernie Johnson as the cool hand at the center of "Inside the NBA." @markjburns88 got a glimpse of something else while working at the agency that rep’d him. It's a side of Johnson worth remembering as he says goodbye to the hit sports TV show. sportandstate.com/2026/10/28…

There are quota limits on foreign players throughout European basketball leagues. Now that players are compensated, it should be the same at American universities -- Protect American Jobs. Instead, 17-year old American high schoolers are losing spots to 24-year old foreign professionals.

Look at NAIA men's soccer. Same thing. It's kind of like a young adult's semi-pro league.

This is very true. It’s worth a closer look. My grandson plays for a D-1 soccer program. When players get introduced prior to the game, most schools we play have 5,6 even 7 players for Europe. I don’t have access to the records, but based on what I’ve seen, over 30% are from overseas. This is taking scholarship from American students.

All colleges have foreign athletes. Most D1 hockey programs are primarily Canadian and European student athletes- has been for a long time. Soccer too. Colleges at D1 level compete for the best athletes worldwide- the TV and sponsorship money is huge

This must be changed by US Soccer or government directly. First of all, sport scholarship was created for the benefit of American athletes and is funded by American tax dollars at public universities so no brainer. Second, and very important, US soccer needs more talent coming through so Americans should be highly represented at all levels of soccer whether that is pro academies or college teams. My kids were impacted by this injustice so I’ve lived it first hand. Need a fee on this like the H-1b $100k fee charged to every college for each non American recruit.

Definitely cheaper than The Cheesecake Factory, right @ClayTravis ?! 🫠
OMG, it would be cheaper for you and your wife to go to Game 6 of the WNBA Finals tomorrow than it would be to go and have lunch at Five Guys tomorrow. The WNBA without Caitlin Clark is about as popular as herpes 😂

Well-deserved praise for all involved 🙌
On the positive side, nice comments from Awful Announcing of all places on @SportNState and our roster of new live shows @Hutton_Withrow @OnTiltShow & @NextRoundLive. I’ll take the title of “kingmaker.”

Did you read the story?
Meh. How often did NBA players leave the court for the National Anthem?!

Any day I can mention the late, great journalist (in the best sense of the word) David Halberstam in a story is a good day!
The WNBA’s culture wars, officiating complaints and scheduling headaches aren’t exactly unprecedented. The NBA went through its own existential crisis before Magic, Bird and Jordan changed everything. @kayceeunplugged on what history tells us about the WNBA’s future. sportandstate.com/2026/10/28…

Angel Reese: We are playing a Game 6 matinee? Magic Johnson: Hold my remote! My column for @SportNState :

Sir, I’ve written college football pieces the past 2 months on Oregon, USC, and UCLA’s “gutty little Bruin” QB. We’re a lean and mean staff but we do our best to cover what we can ✌️

100,000 times this! The culture in this Brewers organization is enviable
Do you want to know the definition of a great baseball teammate? Watch this video 👇👇👇 Sal Frelick reminds us that it’s not always about YOU. It’s about recognizing, celebrating, and appreciating the outstanding performance of your teammates. Great teammates celebrate other’s success as much as their own.

Replying to @Kayceeunplugged
Nope, too many other problems the new WNBA commissioner will be facing. Not worth the headaches.

I think this alone makes you a solid candidate to be the new commissioner 😉
I read about the scheduling problem weeks ago at the start of the WNBA playoffs. The WNBA has weeks to plan for this possibility and did nothing.
